KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced a new Athlete of the Week for week 11 of the 2026 women’s tennis season, presented by
ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA. Central Oklahoma’s Mei Hasegawa was named the MIAA Athlete of the Week for her second weekly honor of the season.
MIAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Mei Hasegawa, Central Oklahoma
Mei Hasegawa led Central Oklahoma to a pair of MIAA wins over Northeastern State and Arkansas Fort Smith, going 4-0 this week. The sophomore from Japan won 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-0 in her two singles matches. She also won 6-2 and 6-2 in each of her doubles matches. Hasegawa is now 14-1 this season in singles play and has won 14 consecutive matches, including all seven of her MIAA contests. She is 14-2 in doubles play and has won the last eight, including all seven MIAA contests. Hasegawa is also ranked No. 22 in Division II singles and No. 10 in Division II doubles with teammate Pete Komada in the latest ITA rankings.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Renske Ubachs, Washburn
Renske Ubachs went a combined 4-0 on the week in singles and doubles, helping the Ichabods to a 2-0 week over MIAA ranked opponents. Ubachs and Riko Konno went 2-0 at No. 3 doubles, winning the two duals by a combined score of 12-2. In singles play, she defeated Johanna Priedite of Missouri Western 6-3 and 6-1 in two-sets at No. 1, helping the Ichabods defeat the No. 40-ranked Griffons 6-1. In the 4-3 win over the No. 42-ranked Bearcats, Ubachs won a key point, defeating Miru Nonaka 6-4 and 6-3 on the top court.
Cristina Granero Boj, Missouri Western
Cristina Granero Boj continued her strong stretch with impactful performances in singles and doubles across three matches for No. 40 Griffon Tennis. Against No. 18-ranked Washburn, Granero Boj competed at No. 2 doubles with Johanna Priedite, dropping a tight 7-6 decision. In singles, she delivered a highlight performance with a straight-set 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3, though the Griffons fell 6-1 overall. In the 7-0 sweep of Fort Hays State, Granero Boj earned a win at No. 3 singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 result. She was also part of the No. 3 doubles team with Priedite, which won by default as MoWest secured the doubles point and the overall victory. Against Emporia State, Granero Boj paired with Priedite at No. 2 doubles for a 6-4 win, helping secure the doubles point. She followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles in the Griffons’ 6-1 team win. Across all three matches, Granero Boj posted three singles victories while contributing in doubles play, playing a key role in MoWest team wins over Emporia State (6-1) and Fort Hays State (7-0).
Giovanna Ferreira, Emporia State
Giovanna Ferreira went undefeated at No. 1 doubles last week and split two singles matches at the No. 1 position. Ferreira teamed with Carla Paul Piquer to defeat No. 48-ranked Jevrosima Mitic and Alejandra Ramirez of Missouri Western 6-3, followed by a 6-4 win over Northwest Missouri's Laura Prieto Sieiro and Polina Agapitova at No. 1 doubles. While playing at No. 1 singles, Ferreira fell in three sets to MWSU's Johanna Priedite 6-7(4-7), 6-4, 1-0(10-8) before picking up a 7-6(7-5), 3-6, 1-0(10-8) win over the Bearcats’ Miru Nonaka.
