KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its first Athlete of the Week award for the 2026 women’s tennis season, presented by
ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA. Central Oklahoma’s Pete Komada earned the league’s first MIAA Athlete of the Week honor.
MIAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Pete Komada, Central Oklahoma
Senior All-American Pete Komada scored both points in Central Oklahoma’s 5-2 loss to No. 18-ranked UT-Tyler last Thursday, beating the No. 7-ranked doubles team in the country 7-5 and earning a win at No.2 singles, 7-5, 6-4. In the Bronchos’ 6-1 win over Southwest Baptist, she picked up two more wins, winning 6-1 at No.1 doubles and 6-0, 6-1 at No.2 singles.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Renske Ubachs, Washburn
Renske Ubachs went a combined 2-0 on the week, helping the Ichabods to a regional victory over Augustana 4-1. In doubles, she and Daniela Tijaro, ranked No. 4 in the nation, teamed to defeat the No. 20-ranked duo of Maria Fiacan and Fernanda Sandoval 6-2 at No.1. She also added a point to Washburn's total in singles, winning in two sets over Mia Garcia on the top court, 6-3 and 6-2.
Sheriden Wichman, Emporia State
Sheriden Wichman started the spring season undefeated with wins at No.2 and No.3 singles, along with two wins at No.2 doubles. The senior first won 6-3, 6-1 at No.3 singles against Bethel's Grace Dawes before picking up a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over Seward CC's Elena Oborocea at No.2 singles. She teamed with Victoria Debono for a 6-3 win against Dawes and Ximena Raya from Bethel and a 6-1 win over Oborocea and Patrizia Sazambile of Seward CC.
