KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced a new Athlete of the Week for week four of the 2026 women’s tennis season, presented by ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA. Nebraska Kearney’s Fabiana Gamboa was named the MIAA Athlete of the Week for the Lopers’ second weekly honor of the season.     
 
MIAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Fabiana Gamboa, Nebraska Kearney     
A returning All-American who is coming off injury, Fabiana Gamboa collected wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 2 singles to help the Lopers upset the No. 13-ranked St. Mary’s at home. She and partner senior partner Clare Plachy won 6-4 to conclude doubles before Gamboa took her singles match in straight sets (7-5, 6-1).
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Renske Ubachs, Washburn
Washburn played its second straight top-10 opponent and fell just short to No. 5-ranked Embry-Riddle on the road in Florida. Renske Ubachs went 2-0 in the match. She and Daniela Tijaro, the nation’s No. 4-ranked doubles pair, won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles over the top Eagles duo. In singles action, Ubachs, ranked No. 14 in the nation for singles, won in two sets, 7-6(5) and 6-3, at No. 1 over Ameile Gindl to give Washburn another point.
