UNK's Cechanaviciute Named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, Presented by ClassicCourt

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced a new Athlete of the Week for week two of the 2026 women’s tennis season, presented by ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA. Nebraska Kearney’s Patricija Cechanaviciute was named the MIAA Athlete of the Week, claiming the Lopers’ first weekly award of the season.    
 
MIAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Patricija Cechanaviciute, Nebraska Kearney     
Patricija Cechanaviciute helped Nebraska Kearney to its first win of the 2026 spring season with a 5-2 victory over Colorado Mesa at home last Saturday (Feb. 14). The freshman from Lithuania went 2-0 against the Mavericks, highlighted by an upset over No. 35-ranked Devyn Rodriguez at No.1 singles (7-6, 6-2). She also teams up with redshirt senior Clare Plachy to win 7-5 at No.1 doubles.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Mel Hasegawa, Central Oklahoma
Mei Hasegawa went 2-0 against Ouachita to help the Bronchos sweep the Tigers 7-0 last Friday (Feb. 13) in Edmond. The sophomore from Japan won 6-2 in doubles with teammate Pete Komada in the No.1 position before winning 6-1, 6-2 in singles play, also at the No.1 spot in the lineup. 
 
Majra Djokic, Northwest Missouri
Majra Djokic won at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles to help lift the Bearcats to a 5-2 win over Colorado Mesa. Djokic scored a straight-sets triumph at No.2 singles (6-4, 6-4) over CMU's Valentina Gonzalez. The sophomore from Serbia teamed with Polina Gontaryk to secure the doubles point with a 7-5 win over CMU's Gonzalez and Sophie Hartman at No.3 doubles.
