MIAA Announces Final 2026 Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week, Presented by ClassicCourt

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its final MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week in the 2026 spring season, presented by ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA. Washburn’s Pavlos Parson was named the final Athlete of the Week in the North Division and Northeastern State’s Alexander Edley was named the final Athlete of the Week in the South Division.  

NORTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Pavlos Parson, Washburn          
Pavlos Parson went 2-0 in Washburn's only match of the week, a 7-0 sweep of the Lions on the road to cap off a second straight undefeated MIAA/GAC regular season across both divisions. Parson and Tommy Cecchetti defeated No. 43-ranked Eduardo Bribiesca and Birk Arwedahl 6-2 at No. 1 doubles to begin the match. Parson, the No. 42-ranked singles player in Division II, won in three sets over Bribiesca on the top court (7-6(3), 3-6 and 10-4), helping the Ichabods secure their tenth straight victory to end the regular season.

SOUTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Alexander Edley, Northeastern State
Alexander Edley went 4-0 for the RiverHawks in the final week of the regular season. The sophomore earned a 6-3 (7-3), 6-1 win over Rockhurst’s Alexi Khamrotau and a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Ouachita Baptist’s Moritz Buss at No. 2 singles. In doubles competition, he added wins of 7-5 and 6-4 on the top court. Edley finished the regular season on a four-match winning streak in both singles and doubles.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Ivan Melnik, Nebraska Kearney  [NORTH DIVISION]
Ivan Melnik was unbeaten in Nebraska Kearney’s 7-0 MIAA sweep of Newman last Friday (April 24). The sophomore won in straight sets at No. 1 singles  (6-1, 6-4) and earned a 7-6 (-6) win at one doubles with junior Andy Brisdon. The Lopers duo is currently ranked No. 6 in Division II men’s doubles.
 
Diego Calvo, Emporia State  [NORTH DIVISION]
Diego Calvo picked up a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles and teamed with Anton Sarunic for a 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles in the Hornets’ season finale against Augustana.
