KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced new MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week for week seven of the 2026 spring season, presented by
ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA. Washburn’s Zino Nahiriak was named the Athlete of the Week in the North Division for the second straight week, and Southern Arkansas’s Jonas Sommer earned the Athlete of the Week honor in the South Division.
NORTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Zino Nahirniak, Washburn
Zino Nahirniak, the reigning MIAA/GAC Athlete of the Week in the North Division, went a combined 4-1 on the week in singles and doubles competition as the Ichabods collected wins against Southeastern Oklahoma State (7-0), No. 31-ranked Harding (4-0) and No. 6-ranked Lubbock Christian (4-3). Nahirniak and Benjamin Fock went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles, which included a 7-6(5) win over Hardings’ No. 3-ranked Cian Mikkelsen and Adrian Solorzano to clinch the doubles point over the Bison. He also finished 2-0 in singles play at No. 3 singles, which included a two-set win in the close 4-3 victory over No. 6 Lubbock Christian.
SOUTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jonas Sommer, Southern Arkansas
Jonas Sommer was undefeated on the week, collecting a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles and two more at No. 4 singles as Southern Arkansas defeated back-to-back MIAA/GAC opponents. The Muleriders opened the week with a 4-3 win over Emporia State. Jonas and Uwe Diehl defeated the Hornets duo of Anton Sarunic and Luke West by a final of 6-3 at line one doubles en route to the Blue and Gold winning the doubles point. He also then won his singles match at line four in dominant fashion, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 over Duvan Santiago Torres. Southern Arkansas then earned its second in-division win with a 5-2 victory over Northeastern State. The due of Jonas and Uwe again won at line one doubles 6-3 and were the only Mulerider duo to win their doubles match over Alexander Edley and Mansur Khajimuradov. Jonas then won his second straight match in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-4 over the RiverHawks’ Alexander Edley.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Tadeusz Michalowski, Augustana [NORTH DIVISION]
Tadeusz Michalowski led Augustana to a 2-1 week with wins over St. Thomas Aquinas and Vassar. Playing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, the freshman finished 2-1 in doubles action and 1-0 in singles action, with two of his matches on the week going unfinished. He and teammate Pinto Pedro recorded the Vikings’ lone doubles point (6-2) in Augustana’s loss to Northwood. He was also leading in his No. 1 singles dual before the match finished.
Guillaume Randoux, Ouachita [SOUTH DIVISION]
Guillaume Randoux represented the clinching point for Ouachita in its only match of the week, which was a 4-2 victory over MIAA/GAC foe Emporia State at home last Wednesday. Guillaume defeated Emporia’s Alexis Mattenberger at No. 5 singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. The win secured his fourth straight two-set victory and improved his season singles record to 8-2.
