KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced new MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week for week ten of the 2026 spring season, presented by
ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA. Emporia State’s Mostafa Elbasnaly was named the Athlete of the Week in the North Division and Ouachita’s Maximillian Brenner was named the Athlete of the Week in the South Division.
NORTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Mostafa Elbasnaly, Emporia State
Mostafa Elbasnaly led Emporia State to a 6-1 win over No. 21-ranked Nebraska Kearney with a 6-4, 6-3 win over then No. 75-ranked Andy Brisdon at No. 1 singles. The Hornets swept all six singles matches after falling in all three doubles contests, including a 6-3 loss by Elbasnaly and Diego Calvo at No. 2 doubles. The dual win was Emporia State's first over a nationally ranked opponent since defeating then No. 31-ranked Rockhurst 6-1 on March 8, 2025, at the Kossover Complex. It’s Emporia State’s highest-ranked win since beating then No. 19-ranked Lubbock Christian 4-3 on March 12, 2024, in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
SOUTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Maximillian Brenner, Ouachita
Maximilian Brenner was 2-0 in singles competition and 1-1 in doubles as Ouachita started MIAA/GAC play 2-0 with South Division wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State and Arkansas-Fort Smith. In the 5-2 over Southeastern, Brenner defeated Poalo Estrada at No. 6 singles by scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 7-6. In the 5-2 win over UAFS, he defeated Kivanc Bedir at No. 5 singles by scores of 3-6, 6-4 and 6-0. In doubles action, he and teammate Tinus Mueller lost their matchup to Southeastern's Erin Poindexter and Luke Tinnock at No. 3 by a score of 6-3 and won their bout at No. 3 against UAFS' Rodrigo Hoppe and Kevin Praphan 6-2.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Pavlo Vysotin, Northwest Missouri [NORTH DIVISION]
Pavlo Vysotin went 2-0 at No. 2 singles in leading No. 50-ranked Northwest Missouri State to dual wins over Northeastern State and Augustana. Vysotin knocked off NSU's Alexander Edley, 6-1, 6-0. He also topped Augustana's Jose Velasco, 6-3, 6-3. He then paired with Gage Foltz to secure a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Augustana's Thomas Kano and Sebastian Garcia. Northwest is 9-7 overall and 1-1 in MIAA duals after the league victory against Augustana at the Genesis indoor courts in St. Joseph, Mo.
Pavlos Parson, Washburn [NORTH DIVISION]
Pavlos Parson went 2-0 while helping the Ichabods win their outdoor home-opener 5-2 over No. 21 Nebraska Kearney. Parson and Tommy Cecchetti, ranked No. 45 nationally in doubles, came from behind to defeat Tom van den Dungen and Ilan Fuentes 7-6(3) at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, Parson, individually ranked No. 34 in Division II, defeated the Lopers’ No. 58-ranked Ivan Melnik in two sets, 7-5 and a 7-6(5) tiebreaker to help secure the ranked victory.
