New MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week, Presented by ClassicCourt

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced new MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week for week nine of the 2026 spring season, presented by ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA. Northwest Missouri’s Bernardo Henriques was named the North Division Athlete of the Week and Harding’s Adrian Solorzano was named the Athlete of the Week in the South Division.  

NORTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Bernardo Henriques, Northwest Missouri         
Bernardo Henriques led the Bearcats to a 2-1 week to earn his first MIAA/GAC Athlete of the Week honor. The junior opened the week with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 singles victory in Northwest Missouri’s 6-1 win over Williams Woods. He then defeated Nebraska Kearney’s Alex Jaulin 6-2, 6-0 in the Bearcats’ 2-5 loss to the No. 21-ranked Lopers. Henriques ended the week with a 6-3, 6-3 singles win and earned his first doubles win of the week with teammate Jules Subra to lead Northwest to a 5-2 win over No. 44 Drury.

SOUTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Adrian Solorzano, Harding  
Jonas Sommer has been named the MIAA/GAC Athlete of the Week in the South Division for the third straight week. He led the Muleriders through four matches last week, as Southern Arkansas finished 2-2 with wins over Meridian CC (7-0) and Montevallo (5-2), and losses against ranked opponents, No. 5 Washburn and No. 31 West Alabama. In the four matches, Sommer collected two singles victories and had four matches go unfinished. He was the only Mulerider to win in SAU’s 6-1 loss to No. 31-ranked Montevallo, winning in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) at No. 5 singles.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Ivan Melnik, Nebraska Kearney [NORTH DIVISION]
Ivan Melnik, the No. 50-ranked singles player in Division II, rallied for a win at No. 1 singles (6-7, 6-5, 6-2) and paired with junior Andy Brisdon to win at No. 1 doubles (6-4) to help the No. 21 Lopers defeat Northwest Missouri 5-2. The duo of Melnik and Brisdon is ranked No. 19 nationally and came back from a 4-3 deficit against the Bearcats. 
 
Pavlos Parson, Washburn [NORTH DIVISION]
Pavlos Parson went 2-0 as the Ichabods returned to MIAA play for the first time in more than a month. He and Tommy Cecchetti, the No. 33-ranked doubles pair in Division II, defeated Genaro Dagotto and Enrico Belardo 6-1 at line two. In singles action, he won in two sets, 6-4 and 6-2, over Tikhon Sorokin at line one, leading the Ichabods to a 6-1 conference win over Newman.
