KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its Wrestler of the Week for the ninth week of competition in the 2022-23 season.
MIAA Wrestler of the Week – Billy Higgins – Nebraska Kearney
Billy Higgins, the top ranked 184 pounder in Division II, went 3-0 in the annual Midwest Duals in Kearney this past weekend. The junior recorded a major decision victory and a tech fall by a combined tally of 31-3. He also had a fall in 32 seconds. Higgins is now 18-2 on the season.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Tommy Frezza – Central Missouri
Tommy Frezza had an undefeated, 3-0 performance last weekend at the UNK Midwest Duals. At 133-pounds, Frezza defeated Teagan Block of Northern State in a 5-3 decision, earned a major decision (12-0) win over Isaiah DeLaCerda of Adams St., and won a 2-1 decision over Weston Diblasi of Colorado Mines, who was a place winner at the Midwest Classic on Dec. 18.
Gabe Johnson – Central Oklahoma
Gabe Johnson helped No. 1-ranked Central Oklahoma to a pair of wins in the Midwest Duals last weekend, notching two bonus wins on the day. The redshirt freshman 157-pounder posted a 15-0 second-period technical fall as the Bronchos opened the day with a 35-10 rout of Western Colorado, then racked up five takedowns in a 12-4 major decision during a 25-12 win over Chadron State.
