[2022-23 MIAA Wrestler of the Week: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3]
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced its fourth Wrestler of the Week for the 2022-23 season. Central Oklahoma’s Studd Morris and Newman’s Jace Fisher share this week’s honor.
Co-MIAA Wrestler of the Week – Studd Morris – Central Oklahoma
Studd Morris had a dominating performance at the Drury Open over the weekend, going 5-0 with five bonus-point wins to capture the 125-pound title. The junior opened the one-day tournament with a first-period fall, then reeled off four straight major decisions. Morris outscored those four opponents a combined 55-17, capping the day with a 12-4 finals rout.
Co-MIAA Wrestler of the Week – Jace Fisher – Newman
Jace Fisher dominated the 165lb weight class at the Drury open, finishing in first place for his first tournament victory of the season. A sophomore out of Goddard, Kansas, Fischer went undefeated (5-0), with two wins by decision (10-3 and 10-3), one by major decision in the semi-final (8-0), another by technical fall (19-3), and one by fall in the final of the 165-weight class (3:58). Fischer has had an impressive season so far. After going 5-0 in the Drury Open has improved his record to 14-2 on the year.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Tereus Henry – Fort Hays State
Tereus Henry picked up a pair of wins in dual action last week, including one major decision and one win over a ranked opponent. Henry, the fourth-ranked wrestler in Division II at 197 pounds, picked up his sixth bonus-point win of the season with a 10-2 major decision against Laith Gilmore of San Francisco State. The El Paso, Texas native then picked up his second win of the season against two-time All-American and sixth-ranked Anderson Salisbury of Colorado School of Mines, recording a take down in overtime for a 3-1 decision in sudden victory. Henry is now 11-1 on the season.
Tre Daro – Nebraska Kearney
Tre Daro won the 197-pound class in the "Amateur" Division at the Doane/Conner Opponeheim Open. Each win came via fall and lasted less than 3:48. He beat three NAIA foes and a JUCO wrestler.
