[2022-23 MIAA Wrestler of the Week: Week 1, Week 2]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced its third Wrestler of the Week for the 2022-23 season. Fort Hays State's Tereus Henry and Central Missouri's Conner Johnston both had championship performances over the weekend to share this week's honor. 
 
Co-MIAA Wrestler of the Week – Tereus Henry – Fort Hays State
Tereus Henry has been named the MIAA Wrestler of the Week for the second consecutive week. Henry, the No. 11-ranked wrestler in Division II at 197 pounds, took home the championship in the Elite 197 bracket at the Younes Hospitality last weekend in Kearney, Neb. The El Paso, Texas native picked up four victories on the day, including two wins over nationally ranked opponents. Henry picked up a 10-6 decision in his first round before capturing a 12-4 major decision in the quarterfinals. He then defeated fourth-ranked Matt Kaylor of U-Mary 8-5 in the semis before defeating sixth-ranked Anderson Salisbury of Colorado School of Mines in sudden victory, 5-3, to secure the championship. Henry is now 9-1 on the year with five bonus-point victories.
 
Co-MIAA Wrestler of the Week – Conner Johnston – Central Missouri
Conner Johnston won the 157-pound amateur division at the UNK Younes Hospitality Open this past weekend. Johnston went 6-0, winning four matches by fall, the fastest coming in the 16th second of the second match. He won his first match by tech fall (17-0) and the final by tech fall (15-0). Johnston also received the Outstanding Wrestler award for the tournament for his performance.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Austin Eldredge – Nebraska Kearney
Austin Eldredge, the No. 2-ranked 174 pounder in Division II, went 5-0 at the Younes Hospitality Open. He outscored the competition by a 72-4 margin which included three tech falls, a major and 10-4 decision. Eldredge beat a wrestler from Air Force, three Division II counterparts and one from NAIA power Grand View.
 
Studd Morris – Central Oklahoma
Studd Morris was runner-up at 125 pounds in the one-day Lindenwood Open tournament. He opened the tournament with a 4-3 win over Jayden Carson of Division I Arkansas-Little Rock, then knocked off Division II’s No. 7-ranked Christian Mejia of McKendree 3-1 in sudden victory in the semifinals. Morris dropped a 3-1 sudden-victory decision in the finals to Oklahoma States Zach Blankenship.
 
Jace Fischer – Newman
Jace Fischer finished second in 165-pound bracket at the Younes Hospitality Open. He recorded four victories, two coming by decision, one by major decision (14-3), and a semi-final victory by technical fall (19-4). This is his second top-three finish on the early season.
