MIAA Announces First Wrestler of the Week For 2022-23 Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced its first Wrestler of the Week award for the 2022-23 season. Both Central Oklahoma's Dylan Lucas and Central Missouri's Darick Lapaglia were crowned individual champions at the Dan Harris Open to be named Co-MIAA Wrestlers of the Week. 

Co-MIAA Wrestler of the Week – Dylan Lucas – Central Oklahoma 
Dylan Lucas dominated in his return to the mat after a lengthy layoff, going 5-0 with five bonus-point wins. The sophomore 133-pounder, who hasn't competed since a runner-up finish in the 2017 junior college national tournament, opened the season last Friday with a 12-2 major decision in the Bronchos' 30-3 dual win over Northern State. Lucas followed that up on Sunday with a championship finish in the Dan Harris Open with two technical falls and two falls, including a first-period pin in the finals.

Co-MIAA Wrestler of the Week – Darick Lapaglia – Central Missouri 
Darick Lapaglia was crowned champion of the 149-pound weight class at the Dan Harris Open in Baldwin City, Kan. The Mules junior went undefeated, 5-0, at the tournament with one win by injury forfeit, two wins by decision, one major decision victory and one win by fall. Lapaglia's pin came in the first 1:21 of his quarterfinal match to advance to the 149-pound semifinals. 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Tereus Henry – Fort Hays State
Tereus Henry was the only Tiger victorious in the dual with Northern Colorado. The sophomore won his match at 197 pounds over Xavier Vasquez with a 5-2 decision. Henry is currently ranked No. 11 at 197 pounds. It was his only match of the week.

Jace Fischer – Newman
Jace Fischer went 4-1 to placed third in the 165-pound weight class at the Falcon Invite over the weekend. Fischer spread his wins out with one win by fall, another by decision, and another by major decision. He then recorded another victory by fall in the third place match against Texas Wesleyan's Braeden Baller.
