KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its Wrestler of the Week for the seventh week of competition in the 2022-23 season.
MIAA Wrestler of the Week – Shawn Streck – Central Oklahoma
Shawn Streck had a dominating weekend in helping lead Central Oklahoma to a runner-up finish in the NWCA Division II National Duals in Louisville, Ky. The second-ranked junior heavyweight went 4-0 with three bonus wins as the Bronchos finished 3-1, losing a 19-16 finals decision to St. Cloud State. Streck rolled to 20-8 and 20-6 major decisions in his first two matches, then had a first period fall over the No. 6-ranked individual from West Liberty State. Streck posted an easy 10-3 win against St. Cloud State and finished with weekend with 24 total takedowns.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Cade Lindsey – Fort Hays State
Cade Lindsey turned in a 5-0 record at the NWCA National Duals, recording two pins and three decisions. He defeated one ranked opponent in No. 7 Alex Holguin of Colorado Mesa with a 5-2 decision. Lindsey, ranked sixth at 174 pounds in the latest NWCA Rankings, improved his record to 28-4 on the year.
Billy Higgins – Nebraska Kearney
Billy Higgins, ranked No. 1 at 184 pounds, went 5-0 this past weekend as a banged up Loper squad finished eighth overall at the national duals. Higgins’s tourney featured two major decision wins, two decisions victories and a first-period fall. The redshirt sophomore is now 15-3 on the year.
Dylan Sheler – Newman
Dylan Sheler placed second at the Hastings Open in the 125lb weight class. The Jets freshman was close to earning his second championship of the season after earning a 6-2 decision in round one, a 4-3 decision in the quarterfinals, and a 10-4 decision over Dickinson State’s Wyatt Engwicht before falling in the finals against Missouri Valley’s Brayden Bradley in a close 6-5 decision.
