KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced a new Golfer of the Week award winner in the 2026 spring season. Six MIAA teams were in action over the past two weeks. Fort Hays State’s Cooper Scheck was named the MIAA Men’s Golfer of the Week with an impressive first-place finish in Rogers State’s Hillcat Classic.
MIAA MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Cooper Scheck, Fort Hays State
Cooper Scheck claimed his second career victory with a three-round total of 210 (-6) at the 11th annual Hillcat Classic, March 9-10 at the Bailey Ranch GC in Owasso, Okla. The senior opened the event with a 73 (+1) before carding a bogey-free, 67 (-5) in the second round to enter the final round one shot back from the leader. The Dodge City, Kan. native then turned in four more birdies in the third round to fire a 70 (-2), winning the event by one shot. He led the 48-man field with only three holes over par across the 54-hole event while also leading the way with 40 pars and ranking fourth with 11 birdies. The senior lowered his average to 70.9 while he moved up to 86th in Division II in the latest Scoreboard by Clippd rankings.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Mason White, Pittsburg State
Mason White finished in a tie for the individual title at the Maverick Desert Classic March 9-10, helping lead the Gorillas to the team title in the process, marking the first individual and team titles claimed by Pittsburg State since the program restarted in the 2024-25 campaign. White finished the 36-holes with a score of 142 (-2) with back-to-back rounds of 71 (-1) while also carding an eagle, seven birdies, and 22 holes finished at par at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. For the 2025-26 season, White is averaging a 73.3 round score with six top-20 finishes and a trio of top-10 placements and 11 rounds finished at either on par or under par.
Tim Johnston, Missouri Western
Tim Johnston carded a career-best third-place finish at the Oak Tree Invitational at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla., earlier this week (March 16-17), to lead the Griffons through the two-day, 36-hole event. Johnston followed up a strong showing in round one with a 73 (+3) in round two, birdying on holes 1, 8 and 12. He finished with a two-round total of 144 (+4), just three strokes behind the winner.
