KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its first men’s Golfer of the Week in the 2025 season. All 11 MIAA men’s golf teams competed in their first events of the 2025-26 season over the past two weeks with Central Oklahoma’s Nick Canales claiming the first individual title and MIAA weekly honor of the season.
MIAA MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Nick Canales, Central Oklahoma
Nick Canales won The Mule at Central Missouri's Mules National earlier this week (Sept. 8-9), shooting a total score of 207 (-3) in the 54-hole event. The junior from La Porte, Texas, led the Bronchos to the team title with a score of 826 (-14), outdoing the tournament host and second-place Mules by 14 shots. Canales started with a 71 (+1) Monday morning before shooting a 67 (-3) on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, he finished with a 69 (-1) to clinch the individual crown. Canales and the Bronchos have now won Central Missouri’s The Mule in back-to-back seasons.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
CJ Phillips, Central Missouri
CJ Phillips helped Central Missouri to a runner-up finish at The Mule Sept. 8-9 at Mules National Golf Club in Warrensburg. The junior from Edmond, Okla., tied for second in the 54-hole tournament with a final card of 208 (-2), posting round scores of 74 (+4), 64 (-6) and 70 (E).
