NSU's Nathan Biais Named MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced a new Golfer of the Week award winner for the first week of the 2026 spring season. Eight MIAA men’s golf teams returned to action earlier this week with teams competing in Arkansas, Nevada and Texas. Northeastern State’s Nathan Biais won the individual title at the Rattler Invitational to be named the first MIAA Golfer of the Week in the 2026 spring season.
 
MIAA MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Nathan Biais, Northeastern State  
Nathan Biais paced the 87-player field with a three-round score of 212 (-4), carding rounds of 72-72-68 to win the Rattler Invitational at the Dominion Country Club. The junior closed the tournament with a 68 (-4) in the final round to secure a one-shot victory over Midwestern State's Ryan Griff (213). As a team, the RiverHawks finished fourth overall with an 885 (299-295-291), improving their score in each round of the 54-hole event. Northeastern State's finish included head-to-head victories over No. 11 Dallas Baptist and No. 17 UT Permian Basin in a competitive 16-team field.   It was the program's first medalist finish at the event since Brad Risenhoover in 2005.
 
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Nick Canales, Central Oklahoma
Nick Canales tied for second individually with a 213 (-3) at Fort Smith's Shadow Valley Invite in Rogers, Ark. The junior shot an even-par 72 and a 70 (-2) on Monday and followed up with a 71 (-1) in Tuesday's final round. Canales made 11 birdie putts and one eagle over 54 holes this week.
