New MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its second Men’s Golfer of the Week in the 2025 season. All 11 MIAA golf teams were in Tulsa, Okla., earlier this week to compete in the NSU Men’s Classic. Sam Sewell of Arkansas-Fort Smith won the individual title to be crowned the latest MIAA Men’s Golfer of the Week.
 
MIAA MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Sam Sewell, Arkansas-Fort Smith
Sam Sewell continued his strong start to the season for the Lions as he was crowned the individual champion of the NSU Men’s Classic this past Tuesday (Sept. 16) at the Page Belcher Golf Course in Tulsa, Okla. The senior from Lantana, Texas, carded a 202 (-11), tying a program record relative to par set by his teammate, Jeremy Tandoy, last season. He also tied the 36-hole record relative to par at nine under. Sewell tallied rounds of 67 (-4), 66 (-5), and 69 (-2), and finished with a team-high 15 birdies. He shot seven-under on par-5s and was one of six players to shoot under par on par-3s. His 202 (-11) 54-hole total was just one stroke ahead of the classic’s runner-up.
 
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
CJ Phillips, Central Missouri
CJ Phillips was the runner-up at the NSU Men’s Classic with a three-round score of 203 (-10), leading the Mules to the runner-up team finish as well. The junior opened the event with back-to-back rounds of 68 (-3) before carding a 67 (-4) in the final round. Phillips has now finished second in both events so far this season.
 
Nick Canales, Central Oklahoma
Defending MIAA Golfer of the Week Nick Canales led the Bronchos to the team title at the NSU Men’s Classic with a third-place finish individually. The junior shot a 204 (-9) overall with rounds of 68 (-3), 65 (-6), and an even 71. He also tied for the third-most birdies in the event with 16.
