Two Women's Golfers Share Latest MIAA Golfer of the Week Honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced a new Golfer of the Week award winner for week four of the 2026 spring season. Two MIAA golfers tied for third at Washburn University’s Firekeeper Open to share this week’s Golfer of the Week title.
 
MIAA CO-GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Pella Broms, Nebraska Kearney    
Pella Broms tied for third at the Firekeeper Open, hosted March 23-24 at the Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kan. The freshman from Linköping, Sweden, scored a three-round total of 221 (+5) with rounds of 74 (+2), 73 (+1) and another 74 (+2). Fresh off ACL recovery, Broms led the field with 14 birdies and on par 3 scoring with a 3.00 scoring average. Her efforts helped the Lopers tie host Washburn for first in the 13-team event. 
 
MIAA CO-GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Angelina Borg-Malec, Washburn     
Angelina Borg-Malec tied for third place at the Ichabods’ Firekeeper Open earlier this week. The senior from Courchevel, France, shot a final round score of 71 (-1) to lead Washburn to a share of the team title. Borg-Malec opened the event with a 73 (+1) before scoring a 77 (+5) in the second round and a 71 (-1) in the final round for a 56-hole total of 221 (+5). She tied for the event’s most pars with 37 and led the field in par 4 scoring with an even 4.00 scoring average. The shared team title is Washburn’s first first-place finish of the season.
 
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Lauren Biggs, Northwest Missouri
Lauren Briggs was Northwest's top finisher in a tie for 11th in the final individual standings at the Firekeeper Open earlier this week. The sophomore from Burlington, Iowa, secured three birdies in her final round at holes No. 3, No. 6 and No. 11. Briggs shot a final round 74 for a three-round total of 229 (+13). Briggs had a team-best eight birdies in the 54-hole event. Her eight birdies tied for the fifth-most in the 81-player field. It is the 14th time this season Briggs has shot a round in the 70s.
