[2022-23 MIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5, Week 6]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its first women's outdoor track and field athletes of the week of the 2023 season.
 
Co-Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week – Taniya Looney – Pittsburg State       
Taniya Looney posted the fastest time in NCAA Division II this season in the 100 meters at the Emporia State Relays this past Saturday. The Oklahoma City native won the discipline in a lightning quick time of 11.34 seconds. Looney shattered the former Pitt State record in the discipline by .09 seconds.
 
Co-Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week – Kiara Smith – Missouri Southern        
Kiara Smith won the 100-meter hurdles at the ESU Relays with an NCAA Qualifying mark of 13.51 seconds to set a new meet and MSSU record in the event. Smith’s time is the currently the fastest in Division II this season.
 
Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week – Kayla Goodwin – Central Missouri 
Kayla Goodwin won the heptathlon at the ESU Relays after tallying a personal-best score of 5,476 points. Her mark is now the best in NCAA Division II so far this season and 21st-highest in NCAA Division II history. It also ranks second-best in school history. Goodwin went a perfect 7-of-7 in the heptathlon events, winning all seven. In the heptathlon long jump, she compiled an outdoor personal-best mark of 5.98 meters (19.07.50), which is ninth-best in Division II this season and fourth-best in school history.
 
NOTABLE TRACK PERFORMANCES
Mattie Rossi – Fort Hays State
Mattie Rossi took home first place in the 400-meter hurdles at the ESU Relays, crossing the line in a national qualifying time of 1:01.24. She also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.36. She leads the MIAA and ranks fourth nationally in the 400-meter hurdles and is fourth in the league and 16th nationally in the 100-meter race.
 
Abigael Reid – Empora State
Abigael Reid ran a leg on the women’s 4x400 meter relay team that captured first place at the ESU Relays. The Hornets time of 3:50.68 is ranked tenth in the nation so far this season. She also placed third in the heptathlon with a provisional qualifying mark of 4712 points that is currently third in the nation.
 
NOTABLE FIELD PERFORMANCES
Addie Berens – Fort Hays State
Addie Berens ranks second nationally in the javelin throw after opening the year with a heave of 152-6 at the ESU Relays this past Saturday. The toss is less than two feet off her personal best.
 
Lily Novacek – Nebraska Kearney
Lily Novaceck won the hammer throw competition at the Emporia State Relays. Her toss of 177-5 beat the runner up by almost 20 feet. The mark currently ranks sixth in school history, tenth in Division II and is the third best throw in the MIAA.
