[2022-23 MIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week: Week 1]
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its second women's indoor track and field athletes of the week for the 2022-23 season.
Indoor Track Athlete of the Week – Tiffany Hughey – Northwest Missouri
Tiffany Hughey posted the nation’s second-best time in the 400m and the nation’s fourth-best clocking in the 200m at the Northwest Open this past weekend in the Hughes Fieldhouse. Hughey won the 400m competition at the Northwest Open with a time of 53.82, which ranks as the No. 2 time in NCAA Division II this season. Her time also set a new Bearcat school record in the event. Hughey captured the 200m title with a blazing time of 24.20, which ranks No. 4 in the nation this season. Her time of 24.20 is the second-fastest time in school history. Both of her performances rank as the best times in the MIAA in the 200m and 400m races this year.
Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Allary Liberatore – Pittsburg State
Allary Liberatore posted the fifth-best mark in NCAA Division II this season in winning the high jump competition at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational this past Friday at the Robert W. Plaster Center. The Oronogo, Mo., native registered her personal best mark with her winning clearance of 5 feet, 7.75 inches.
NOTABLE TRACK PERFORMANCES
Sky Hagan – Pittsburg State
Sky Hagan posted the second fastest time in NCAA Division II this season in winning the 60m hurdles at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational last Friday at the Robert W. Plaster Center. The Houston, Texas, native clocked a personal best time of 8.40 seconds for the third-fastest time in Pitt State history.
Lily Johnson – Washburn
Lily Johnson had the trifecta in the mile run last Friday. The senior broke the school record, the facility record and the meet record at the Washburn Rust Buster in a time of 4:59.17, winning the event besting the previous record of 4:59.51. Her time is the second-fastest mile time in the MIAA this season.
NOTABLE FIELD PERFORMANCES
Rachael Molloy – Central Missouri
Rachael Molloy on the women’s weight throw at the UCM Invitational last Friday with a provisional throw of 17.79m (58-04.50). Her mark is currently the second-best in the MIAA, fifth-best in program history and currently the 18th-best in NCAA Division II this season.
Shanice Hutson – Washburn
Shanice Hutson finished second in the shot put at the Washburn Rust Buster, shattering the school record by 23 inches with a mark of 14.00m (45-11.25). The distance was enough for an NCAA provisional mark and a new personal best. Her mark is 14 inches longer than any throw in the MIAA this season.
