KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its eighth MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the 2021-22 season.
MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Kelsey Johnson – Central Oklahoma
Central Oklahoma’s star senior forward Kelsey Johnson continued her dominating ways last week, averaging 24.7 points per game as the Bronchos won all three league contests in Edmond. Johnson started the week scoring 30 points for the fifth time in her career in a 66-52 win over Newman. She then scored 20 points in the Bronchos 69-52 win over Northeastern State and 24 in UCO’s 86-72 victory over Rogers State. Johnson shot 65.2 percent from the field and was a perfect 14-for-14 from the free-throw line. She also averaged 7.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 blocks per game on the week. This is Johnson's third MIAA Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Notable Performances
Brooke Littrell – Central Missouri
Brooke Littrell averaged a double-doubled with 23 points and 11.7 rebounds per game to help the Jennies to a 2-1 record last week which included a 58-52 win at ninth-ranked and MIAA-leading Nebraska Kearney. Littrell had double-doubles in two of her three games. The second-year freshman scored 22 points with 11 rebounds in the Jennies 83-49 win over Emporia State before netting 25 points at Fort Hays State. She then tallied 22 points with a career-best 18 boards in UCM’s 58-52 victory over the Lopers. Littrell also averaged 1.3 assists, one steal and 0.7 blocks per game on the week.
Katie Wagner – Fort Hays State
Katie Wagner helped the Tigers to three big wins last week, averaging 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game while hitting 61.3 percent from the floor. The second-year freshman tallied her fifth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds on the road against Rogers State before totaling 16 points and a career-best seven steals against Central Missouri. Wagner finished off the week with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists against Lincoln. The Tigers won the three games by an average of 28.7 points.
