KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its third MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the 2021-22 season.
MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Kelsey Johnson – Central Oklahoma
For the second consecutive week, Kelsey Johnson has been named the MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week. The senior forward not only posted a monster double-double in Central Oklahoma’s 65-63 win at Cameron last week, but she also hit the game-winning shot as time expired. Johnson scored 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in the Bronchos only competition last week. She went 9-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the free-throw line while also recording one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.
Notable Performances
Bailey Kliewer – Rogers State
Bailey Kliewer led the Hillcats to a 2-0 week with career performances in both games. In RSU’s first game last week, Kliewer led the Hillcats to a 71-63 victory at Southwest Baptist with a career-high 23 points with seven rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. The sophomore then helped the Hillcats to a 82-71 win over Ouachita Baptist with her first double-double of the season posting 22 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three steals and two assists.
Tre’Zure Jobe – Emporia State
Last week, Tre’Zure Jobe averaged 21.5 points as the Lady Hornets improved to 5-1 on the season. Jobe totaled 22 points with three assists and three steals in 24 minutes in the Lady Hornets 91-49 win over Bethel. She then scored 21 points with four assists and three steals in 27 minutes in Emporia States 90-49 win over Peru State. The sophomore continued her climb up the Lady Hornet career scoring list and is now ranked 24th all-time at ESU with 1,152 points. She is leading the MIAA in scoring this season.
Olivia Nelson – Central Missouri
Jennies sophomore guard Olivia Nelson scored a career-high 29 points in Central Missouri’s 94-59 win over Bellevue last week. Nelson finished 13-of-18 from the field and 3-for-4 at the free-throw line. She also had a team-high tying five assists and four steals in the game.
Katie Wagner – Fort Hays State
Katie Wagner posted a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds to help Fort Hays State turn away the No. 8 team in NAIA by a score of 81-72. The Tigers freshman also led the team in assists with five. She hit 10-of-16 field goal attempts in the game and made 3-of-4 at the charity stripe.
