KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced new football athletes of the week from the 11th week of the 2025 season, presented by
FieldTurf. Pittsburg State’s Jackson Berry and Austin Schmitt were named the Offensive and Special Teams Athlete of the Week and Emporia State’s Landon Boss earned the Defensive Athlete of the Week title.
OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jackson Berry, QB, Pittsburg State
Jackson Berry passed for a season high 296 yards and two touchdowns to help lead No. 8 Pittsburg State to a 48-35 road win over Central Missouri last Saturday (Nov. 8). The Prosper, Texas native averaged 21.4 yards per completion in the contest, completing 14-of-26 passes overall. He tossed a 71-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyjuan Atkins Jr. midway through the third quarter that gave the Gorillas a 35-21 edge. Berry also rushed the ball seven times for 39 net yards in the game for a league-high 335 total yards on the week.
DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Landon Boss, LB, Emporia State
Landon Boss had a game-high 12 tackles, three for a loss, a sack and an interception return of 43 yards for a touchdown in Emporia State's 45-17 win at Washburn. The Hornets shut out the Ichabods in the second half and held them to just 107 yards of total offense after halftime. His sack in the first quarter forced a Washburn punt that was blocked and returned for a touchdown, giving the Hornets a 7-0 lead. His pick-six in the fourth quarter made it a three-possession game at 38-17. He is currently leading the MIAA in sacks and tackles for loss and is tied for seventh in interceptions. His eight sacks this season rank seventh on the Emporia State single-season list.
SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Austin Schmitt, K, Pittsburg State
Ausitn Schmitt has been named the MIAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week and fourth time this season. Schmitt booted a pair of field goals and scored 12 points in No. 8 Pittsburg State's 48-35 road win over Central Missouri Saturday (Nov. 8). The Grain Valley, Mo., native connected on kicks of 30 and 42 yards in the fourth quarter to help the Gorillas hold off the Mules. Schmitt has converted an NCAA Division II-leading 17 field goals on the season. He has 38 career field goals to his credit.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Chris Ruhnke, QB, Northwest Missouri
Bearcat quarterback Chris Ruhnke was responsible for four touchdowns and rushed for a career-high 75 yards in Northwest Missouri’s 38-7 drubbing of the Missouri Western Griffons. Ruhnke threw for three touchdowns and 208 yards, while rushing nine times for 75 yards and a touchdown. Ruhnke had touchdown throws of six yards (Dominic Myers), five yards (Luke Mathews) and 19 yards (Gatlin Samuel). He passed for three touchdowns, marking his second three-touchdown passing effort this season and sixth of his collegiate career.
Jordan Rogers, S, Pittsburg State
Jordan Rogers returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown on the opening possession of the third quarter to break a 14-14 tie and eventually lead No. 8 Pittsburg State to a 48-35 road win over Central Missouri Saturday (Nov. 8). The Bellmead, Texas native recorded one of four takeaways by the Gorillas defense on the afternoon. Rogers also finished the game with four tackles (two solo) and a pair of pass breakups. He has now registered 13 career interceptions and 26 career pass breakups.
Clayton Power, DL, Northwest Missouri
Defensive lineman Clayton Power recorded two quarterback sacks and helped the Bearcat defense stymie the Missouri Western Griffons. Northwest limited MWSU to nine first downs, 178 total yards, 38 rushing yards, and forced the Griffons to go 0-for-11 on third-down conversions following its first three conversions to start the game.
The Griffons gained 75 yards on their first drive of the game and took a 7-0 lead. Following that drive, MWSU’s offense was held to 103 total yards on its next 43 plays.
Mo Alwaely, K, Northwest Missouri
Mo Alwaely went 5-for-5 on extra points and made his only field goal attempt for 38 yards in helping Northwest to a 38-7 home win over Missouri Western. The junior kicked off six times and limited the Griffons to 17.2 yards per return with one touchback.
