KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced new football athletes of the week from the third week of the 2025 season. Central Missouri’s Jack Pospisil was named Week Three’s Offensive Athlete of the Week, Pittsburg State’s Reginald King Jr. was named the Defensive Athlete of the Week, and Fort Hays State’s David Arriaga was named the Special Teams Athlete of the Week.
OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jack Pospisil, Wide Receiver, Central Missouri
Jack Pospisil shattered Central Missouri's single-game receiving record in the Mules’ five-point loss to No. 13 Colorado State-Pueblo last Thursday in Warrensburg. The redshirt senior led the MIAA in Week Three with a career-best 252 receiving yards on 12 catches, which included a touchdown reception. His 252 receiving yards broke the previous record of 232 yards, set by Zach Patterson last season at Fort Hays State.
DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Reginald King Jr., Safety, Pittsburg State
Reginald King Jr. recorded the game-sealing interception with 5:04 to play in the game to help No. 24 ranked Pittsburg State hold on for a 17-14 victory over No. 3 ranked Grand Valley State last Saturday (Sept. 13) in Pittsburg. The Grandview, Mo., native snared the errant pass from GVSU's Andrew Schuster at the PSU 38-yard line and returned it 23 yards to the GVSU 39-yard line. The Gorillas’ offense then picked up three first downs to run out the clock and claim the win. King added a pair of pass breakups and three tackles in the contest as the Pitt State defense limited the high-powered Lakers offense to 206 total yards and 56 net rushing yards.
SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: David Arriaga, Kicker, Fort Hays State
David Arriaga was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in Fort Hays State’s MIAA win over Nebraska Kearney. The redshirt freshman converted kicks from 42, 38, 34, and 27 yards. He also accounted for more than half of the points scored by FHSU in the game with 14, going a perfect 2-for-2 on extra-point attempts in addition to his four field goals. Arriaga averaged 62 yards per kickoff and had four touchbacks in the game.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Kane Donovan, QB, Missouri Western
Kane Donovan was key in Missouri Western’s 27-10 win over Missouri S&T last Saturday night at home. The junior quarterback from Oklahoma City landed 20-of-33 through the air for a career-high 233 yards and a career-high three touchdown passes, while also adding 24 rushing yards.
Michael Polley, S, Fort Hays State
Michael Polley had a pivotal interception return for a touchdown in the 26-7 win for Fort Hays over MIAA foe Nebraska Kearney. With the Tigers up 10-0 in the second quarter and the Lopers nearing the redzone late in the half, Polley picked off a pass and ran it back 78 yards for a touchdown. It snapped any hope of a close game at halftime as FHSU took a 17-0 lead into halftime and went on to cruise to the win. Polley also added two pass breakups in the game and a tackle to go with his pick-six against the Lopers.
Austin Schmitt, PK, Pittsburg State
Austin Schmitt booted a career-best 53-yard field goal and added a pair of PATs in No. 24 Pittsburg State's 17-14 home win over No. 3 Grand Valley State this past Saturday (Sept. 13). The Grain Valley, Mo., native staked the Gorillas to a 3-0 lead with 12:06 to play in the second quarter when he drove the ball through the goalposts with his personal best kick. He also knocked in a 23-yard field goal with 1:06 to play in the game that would have given Pitt State a 20-14 advantage, but the visiting Lakers were flagged on the play. The penalty gave the Gorillas a first down and Pitt State took the points off the scoreboard to run out the remainder of the clock.
