New MIAA Football Athletes of the Week, Presented by FieldTurf

11/3/2025 4:30:00 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced new football athletes of the week from the tenth week of the 2025 season, presented by FieldTurf. Northwest Missouri’s Dominic Myers and Carter Edwards were named the league’s Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week for the first time this season while Pittsburg State’s Austin Schmitt was named the Special Teams Athlete of the Week.

OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Dominic Myers, RB, Northwest Missouri
Dominic Myers racked up 208 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) in leading the Bearcats to a 41-14 road triumph over Emporia State. The senior running back totaled 100 rushing yards on 14 carries for his second 100-yard game this season. He also grabbed a team-best eight receptions for 62 yards and added two punt returns for 24 yards and one kickoff return for 18 yards. Myers set up Northwest's first scoring drive of the game with a 24-yard punt return. On the Bearcats’ next possession, Myers scampered 25 yards for a rushing touchdown to give Northwest a 14-7 lead over the Hornets. Myers bumped the lead to 21-7 when he tallied a five-yard touchdown run with 9:27 left in the third quarter for a 21-7 cushion. He also out-leaped a Hornet defender and high-pointed a 31-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Chris Ruhnke with 4:00 left in the third quarter to boost Northwest's lead to 34-7.

DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Carter Edwards, LB, Northwest Missouri
Carter Edwards stacked up the stat sheet in Northwest Missouri’s 41-14 road win over Emporia State last Saturday. The senior linebacker logged five tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 quarterback sacks, a forced fumble and had an interception return for 21 yards. His forced fumble broke up a fake field goal by the Hornets, which easily would have resulted in a touchdown in the second quarter. However, Edwards knocked the ball loose as Emporia State holder Darby Roper rose to pass the ball. On second-and-goal from the nine, Edwards registered a 16-yard sack of Jamison Sarver to move the ball back to the 24-yard line. Two plays later, Edwards notched another sack on the fake field goal. Edwards's third-quarter interception and 21-yard return set the Bearcats up at the three-yard line for a short touchdown drive that put Northwest up 28-7 with 9:08 left in the third quarter.

Edwards and the Bearcat defense held its third straight opponent to less than 200 yards of offense by limiting the Hornets to 181 total yards and 10 first downs. Emporia’s offense was held to its lowest passing output (71 yards) since the 2015 season. It’s the third straight week Edwards and the Northwest defensive unit have held an opponent to less than 100 yards passing – Fort Hays State passed for 87 yards, Nebraska Kearney threw for only 39 yards, and Emporia passed for 71 yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Austin Schmitt, K, Pittsburg State
Ausitn Schmitt has been named the MIAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. The junior kicker booted three field goals and scored 12 points in No. 9 Pittsburg State's 30-10 win over Missouri Southern on Saturday (Nov. 1) at Carnie Smith Stadium. The Grain Valley, Mo., native converted kicks of 34, 26 and 30 yards in the game. He also made all three of his PAT attempts. Schmitt has made an MIAA-leading 15 field goals this season.

OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Stone Wilson, RB, Nebraska Kearney
Stone Wilson ran 17 times for 100 yards and four touchdowns (4, 2, 2 and 45 yards) as Nebraska Kearney rallied from a 17-0 hole to come back and defeated Central Oklahoma 35-24 at home. Wilson’s four rushing scores were one off the school record as he became just the 11th Loper to have four in a game. His 45-yard scoring scamper came on a third-and-nine play and increased the Lopers’ lead to 35-24 with 6:19 left to play.

Hogan Wasson, WR, Central Missouri
Hogan Wasson reeled in two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, which included the game-winning touchdown with 50 seconds remaining in Central Missouri's 28-24 win at Fort Hays State this past Saturday in Hays, Kan. Wasson caught an 11-yard pass from Donovyn Omolo at the 10:37 mark of the fourth quarter to pull the Mules within 24-21 of the Tigers before snagging an eight-yard pass in the end zone at the 50 second mark to put the Mules in front for good, 28-24. The win in Hays was the first for Central Missouri since 2012. For the game, Wasson posted 134 receiving yards on 11 catches with two touchdowns and a long of 31.

John Johnson, LB, Fort Hays State
John Johnson recorded a career-high and MIAA-best 17 tackles in the Tigers’ 28-24 loss to Central Missouri last Saturday. The senior linebacker had a half sack and helped limit the Mules under their season average of total offense by 80 yards. Johnson became the first Tiger with 100 tackles in a season since 2018.

Sam Hultz, DL, Pittsburg State
Sam Hultz posted a pair of quarterback sacks and totaled three stops behind the line of scrimmage to help lead a dominant performance by the Pittsburg State defense in the No. 9-ranked Gorillas’ 30-10 home win over Missouri Southern last Saturday (Nov. 1). The junior from Collierville, Tenn., helped the Gorillas rack up seven quarterback sacks on the afternoon. The Pitt State defense forced a turnover that led to a score, and twice held the Lions on downs, limiting Southern to just 14 net rushing yards on 20 carries. Hultz posted a team-leading five tackles (four solo) on the day.

Latrell Armstrong, K, Missouri Western
Missouri Western’s true freshman kicker Latrell Armstrong was perfect on the day, making all of his kicks in a crucial 27-24 Griffon victory over Washburn. Armstrong went 3-for-3 on extra points and delivered two clutch field goals, a 33-yarder just before halftime (00:44 in the second quarter) and a 44-yarder early in the third quarter (8:39), both splitting the uprights. His flawless performance proved vital, as every point mattered in the narrow three-point win that sealed the Griffons’ 27-24 win.
