Kansas City, Mo. – The Pittsburg State men won the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship with the Lincoln women taking the prize. For the men Lincoln’s Romel Lewis was the high point scorer with Pittsburg State’s Anquinita Reed taking high point for the women.
Things got going in the field as Garrett Appier of Pittsburg State used a throw of 57’ 2.25” to win the MIAA Championship in the men’s shot put. Nebraska-Kearney’s Michael Thalken was second and Bo Farrow, also of Pittsburg State, was third. In the women’s event Jackie Ziemke had an automatic qualifying mark of 49’ 11.25” to win the title. Lekiesha McKnight also had an automatic qualifier and finished second with Missouri Southern’s Kyle Cornman coming in third.
In the women’s triple jump Antqunita Reed used a jump of 41’ 2.25” to claim her second MIAA title of the weekend. Brittani Regan of Missouri Southern was second and Jonelle Campbell of Lincoln finished in third. In the men’s triple jump Maquis Cushon of Pittsburg State jumped 50’ 10” to earn the crown. Central Missouri’s Meelis Siimson was second and Owen Smith of Lincoln came in third.
In the men’s pole vault, held over from yesterday, Jeff Piepenbrink of Pittsburg State automatically qualified with a vault of 17” 0” to earn the MIAA title. Cole Phillps of Central Missouri came in second and Brady Tien of Fort Hays State was third.
In the men’s high jump Devin Claypool used an automatic qualifying jump of 7’ 1.5” to claim the MIAA Championship. Clark Tanksley Missouri Southern and George Charalambous of Central Missouri tied for second play. In the women’s high jump Lacey Rhodes of Central Oklahoma jumped 5’ 8.5” to win the event. Whitney Hardy of Missouri Southern was second with Natalie O’Keefe of Southwest Baptist finishing third.
In the women’s hammer throw Heavin Warner of the Central Missouri won with throw of 199’ 7” also setting a meet record. Michelle Kyle of Lindenwood came in second and Darien Stancell of Pittsburg State was third. For the men Michael Thalken of Nebraska-Kearney threw the hammer 182’ 5” to win the MIAA crown. Luke Wilson of Pittsburg State came in second with his teammate Cody Holland finising third.
In the men’s 4x100 meter relay Lincoln held serve on their home track finishing in 40.37 to win the event. Emporia State used a 41.16 to finish second and Central Missouri’s 41.22 was third. In the women’s race Lincoln made it a sweep with a 45.74 finish to win the event. Fort Hays State came in with a 46.60 to place second and Southwest Baptist’s 46.72 was in third.
In the men’s steeple chase Nick Knudson came in at 9:17.78 to claim the MIAA Championship. Solomon Kipserm of Lindenwood was second and Talon Thompson of Pittsburg State came in third. Anne Herbert of Northwest Missouri turned in an 11:03.70 to win the women’s race. Morgan Benesch of Nebraska-Kearney second and Katherine Sitzes of Southwest Baptist finished in third.
In the men’s 1500 meter run Nicholas Stewart of Lindenwood was the champion turning in a 3:58.48 pace. Anthony Yates of Pittsburg State came in second and Mitch Furtkamp of Southwest Baptist was third. In the women’s race Central Oklahoma’s Rebekah Hickman used a 4:51.70 time to win the MIAA crown. Courtney Heidorn was second from Lindenwood and Missouri Southern’s Dana Roberson came in third.
In the men’s 110 meter hurdles Andre Sanders ran a 14.26 to win the title. Dillon Schrodt of Nebraska-Kearney placed second and Southwest Baptist Dylan Barnum finished in third. In the women’s 100 meter hurdles Ladonna Richards turned in a time of 13.54 to win on her home track. Her teammate Juneille Barker finished in second and Nikki Wetstein of Emporia State was third.
In the men’s 400 meter dash William Shell of Southwest Baptist turned in a 46.31 setting a meet record that dated back to 1996 and winning the event. Michael Ashley of Lincoln was second with Shell’s teammate Maverick Bowleg finishing in third. In the women’s dash Donna-Lee Hylton of host Lincoln finished the race in an automatic qualifying time of 53.16 to come in on top. Her teammate Tamara Keane was second and Southwest Baptist’s Emma Shell was third.
In the men’s 100 meter dash Romel Lewis of Lincoln finished first with a 10.36 pace. Romone Hill was second also from Lincoln and Fort hays State’s Nelson Vazquez was third. In the women’s single trip around the track Yanique Ellington won the MIAA Championship setting an 11.59 pace. Her teammate Janae Johnson was second and Samantha Woodburn of Fort Hays State was third.
In the men’s 800 meter run Jermaine Blake finished in 1:50.00 t set a meet record that had stood since 1984. Kellin Loch of Central Missouri was second and Paul Pape of Nebraska-Kearney came in third. In the women’s race Monique Thompson automatically qualified with a time of 2:08.24 on the afternoon. The top four all automatically qualified with Nebraska-Kearney’s Marissa Bongers finishing second and Terah Fullman-Ege of Lindenwood coming in third.
In the men’s 400 meter hurdles Romel Lewis used a time of 51.26 to take the title. Mike Reynoso of Lindenwood was second and Marquel Nickens of Pittsburg State finished in third. In the women’s hurdles Juneille Barker had a 58.69, an automatic qualifier, to win the race. Nikki Douglas of Central Missouri was second and Lincoln’s Ladonna Richards came in third.
In the men’s 200 meter dash William Shell of Southwest Baptist finished in 21.34 to win. Juwan Cubit of Lindenwood came in second and Lincoln’s Raomone Hill was third. In the women’s half-way round the track trip Yanique Ellington of Lincoln used a 23.76 to automatically qualify. Her teammate Janae Johnson was second and Samantha Woodburn of Fort Hays State finished in third.
Derek Lee of Southwest Baptist won the men’s 5,000 meter run with a 15:14.77 time. Al Sanabria of Nebraska-Kearney came in second and his teammate Kevin Carder was third. For the women Jessica Macy ran an 18:03.28 to earn her second MIAA crown of the year. Kaitlyn Belisle of Missouri Southern was second and Central Missouri’s Megan Glamann was third.
