PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg State University’s men’s track and field program won its sixth consecutive outdoor title at the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Association awarded 19 individual MIAA champions, two champion relay teams, and 63 All-MIAA finishes.
All 10 MIAA men’s track and field teams were in Pittsburg, Kan., this weekend for the Association’s annual outdoor track and field championships. Pittsburg State hosted the 2026 outdoor meet May 1-3 at the University’s brand-new Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
The Gorilla men won their sixth straight outdoor championship and the program's 11th MIAA outdoor title in the last 15 seasons by compiling 203.25 points in the three-day meet. Missouri Southern finished as the men’s runner-up with 127.75 points, 75.5 points behind the Gorillas. Northwest Missouri finished third with 116 team points, Nebraska Kearney placed fifth with 86 team points, and Emporia State concluded the championship’s top five with 81.5 total points.
Pitt State totaled 19 All-MIAA performances with seven individual champions and two championship relay teams. Sprinter Braylon Thompson was part of three MIAA titles for the Gorillas with first-place finishes in the men’s 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100-meter relay. He was honored as the championship's High Point Scorer with 22.5 individual points in the meet.
Missouri Southern’s field athletes highlighted the team’s runner-up showing. Ten of the Lions’ 12 All-MIAA performances were from field events, with four different Lions crowned individual champions of the shot put, discus, javelin and long jump. Northwest Missouri’s track athletes accounted for all of the Bearcats’ 10 All-MIAA performances.
Five MIAA men’s outdoor meet records were broken in the 2026 championship:
- Washburn’s Justin Forde broke a 24-year-old record in the men’s triple jump while winning the MIAA title with a mark of 16.64 meters (54-7). Central Missouri’s Duane Brisbon has held the previous MIAA men’s outdoor triple trump record of 16.13 meters since the 2002 outdoor championship.
- Pitts State’s Caden Williams set a new outdoor record in the men’s 400 meters with a winning time of 45.61. The previous record of 46.15 was set by Reuben Nichols of Lincoln University at the 2022 MIAA Outdoor Championship.
- Northwest Missouri’s Drew Atkins won the MIAA title in the 5000-meter run with a record-breaking time of 14:04.03. Atkins broke the previous MIAA record of 14:21.22, set by his former teammate, Grant Bradley, at the 2025 outdoor championships.
- Missouri Southern’s Jamale Williams was one of the Lions’ four field individual champs, setting a new outdoor record in the men’s discus with a throw of 58.21 meters (191-0). The previous outdoor discus throw record of 58.16 meters was set by Fort Hays State’s Max Alonso at the 2013 MIAA Outdoor Championship.
- Pitt State’s 4x400-meter relay team broke the Association’s outdoor championship record while winning the MIAA title. The relay team of Woyn Chatman, Nate Watson, Logan Davis, and Caden Williams now holds the new outdoor 4x400 record of 3:04.56. Pitt State also owned the previous record time of 3:08.08, set by the Gorillas’ 4x400 squad at the 2025 outdoor championships.
Sixty-three All-MIAA honors were awarded at the 2026 men's outdoor championship with many student-athletes earning more than one All-MIAA recognition. To receive All-MIAA recognition, competitors had to place in the event’s top three. A complete list of the 63 All-MIAA outdoor men's track and field honors from all 21 men's events is listed below.
