EMPORIA, Kan. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association had quite the showing at the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Emporia State University May 21-23. The MIAA totaled eight individual national champions, 12 national runner-up finishes, 78 First Team All-America performances, and was the only Division II conference to have three men’s teams and four women’s teams place in the top ten, led by the men’s and women’s national runner-up, Pittsburg State University.
Sixteen teams (eight men’s teams, eight women’s teams) represented the MIAA at the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Of the 146 MIAA student-athletes (76 men, 70 women) who competed in a combined 162 events (152 individual events, 10 relay events), the league collected 71 individual First Team All-America performances and seven First Team All-America relay team finishes.
Of the 36 total events of the 2026 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor National Championships, there were only five events that didn’t have an MIAA athlete place in the top eight.
Pittsburg State men, the four-time defending Division II outdoor champion, finished second overall with 61 team points, just five points behind the new outdoor national champion, Grand Valley State University. Missouri Southern men finished third with 45 points, followed by Northwest Missouri in sixth with 38 points — the Bearcats’ best finish in men’s program history.
The Gorilla women just missed the 2025-26 indoor and outdoor sweep by only 0.8 points. The Buffs relay squad won the 4x400 title to outscore the Gorillas by five points and claim the national championship. Pitt State’s national runner-up finish is the women’s third consecutive top-three finish at the outdoor national championships (2nd in 2026, 3rd in 2025, 1st in 2024).
Missouri Southern also finished third on the women’s side for the program’s best-ever finish at the outdoor national championships. The Lion women tied for third place with 40 points and secured the program’s first-ever NCAA team trophy.
