Kansas City, Mo. – The Central Missouri men and the Lincoln women repeated as the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Champions at the 2013 meet contested this weekend. Shari-Kaye Campbell of Lincoln was the women’s high point winner while UCM’s Laban Sialo won men’s high point winner for the second year.
The scoring got going on Friday night as the women’s heptathlon came to a close with Central Missouri’s Zoe Sharplin scoring 3,629 points for first place. She was followed by Lincoln’s Sheri Kaye Campbell and UCM’s Madison Smith in third. The men’s heptathlon was alos won by Central Missouri wht Brent Vogel scoring 5,450 points. Dillon Schordt of Nebraska-Kearney took second and Jayce Thomas of Missouri Southern finished in third.
Things moved into the field on Saturday afternoon beginning with the men’s high jump. Briar Ploude of Emporia State was the only jumper to go over seven feet jumping 7’2.50” in the event setting an MIAA meet and building record. MSSU’s Clark Tanksley finished second and Devin Claypool of Central Missouri finished in third place.
Melanie Bower of Missouri Southern won the women’s pole vault going 12’6.75” on the day. Daysha Harak of Central Oklahoma was second and Sydney Haase was third overall. The women’s triple jump came next and Sheri Kaye Campbell of Lincoln jumped 40’4.25” to win the event. Brittani Reagan of Missouri Southern finished in second and Nikki Wetstein of Emporia State finished third. The men’s triple jump was won by Meelis Siimson of Central Missouri with a jump of 49’1.75”. Marquise Cushon of Pittsburg State was second and Darion Boure of MSSU finished in third.
In the men’s shot put Max Alonso of Fort Hays State won with a throw of 58’9.50” as Seth Hackney of Missouri Southern came in second and Michael Thalken of UNK finished third. Rachel McCarroll of Truman set an MIAA meet record with a throw of 61’10.25” to win the women’s weight throw. Brooke Swearingin of Central Missouri finished second and Kylie Cornman of Missouri Southern was third.
In the evening session on Saturday Central Missouri’s Laban Sialo won the 5,000m with a time of 14:42.10. Adam Volkert of Pittsburg State finished second and Phillip Miller of Southwest Baptist came in third. For the women Ashley Wolkomir of Southwest Baptist won the event with a 17:47.34 time. Karen Grauel finished in second and Megan Glamann was third in the event.
Closing out Saturday night’s action was the Distance Medley Relay which was won my Fort Hays State with a time of 10:17.94 which set a MIAA meet record. Southwest Baptist came in second and Pittsburg State finished in third overall. On the women’s side Missouri Southern ran a 12:16.47 to establish a new meet record. Lincoln finished second in the relay and Fort Hays State came in third.
Sunday opened with the women’s long jump where Brittani Reagan jumped 18’10.75” to win the event. Carmen King of Emporia State was second and Nickeisha Beaumont finished in third. Keenan Soles of PSU won the men’s long jump with a 24’1.75” mark. Steven Mann also of PSU finished second and Meelis Siimson of UCM was third. The women’s high jump was won by Erin Alewine of Central Missouri with a jump of 5’8”. Sheri Kaye Campbell of Lincoln was second and Brittany Kellenberger of UCM came in third. Finally in the men’s pole vault Colbie Snyder of PSU was first with a 16’7.25” vault. Michael Juergens of Missouri Southern was second and Jeff Piepenbrink of PSU finished in third.
Kylie Cornman of Missouri Southern won the women’s shot put with a 47’2.50” throw. Larissa Richards of Pittsburg State finished second and Charissa Wall of PSU was third. Lindenwood’s Mitchell Heady had a 62’0.5” throw to win the men’s weight throw. Lucas SanMartin of Emporia State finished in second and Zak Thompson was in third.
Things got going on the track again with the mile run, which was won by Tanner Fruit of Nebraska-Kearney with a 4:13.04 time. Alex Hendee was second and Laban Sialo finished in third place. Twishanna Williams of Lincoln won the women’s race with a 5:08.68 pace. Rachel Schrader of Missouri Southern finished in second and Krenda McClure of Southwest Baptist of in third place.
Next came the 60m hurdles as Gannon Mack ran the event in 8.04 to finish first. Travis Manning of Northwest Missouri was second and Tyler Swalley of Emporia State edged out his teammate to finish in third. Anna-Kay James of Lincoln won the women’s event with a time of 8.53. Zoe Sharplin of Central Missouri came in second and Juneille Barker of Lincoln was third.
Romel Lewis of Lincoln ran an automatic qualifying time of 6.81 to win the men’s 60m dash. Jeff Fraley of MSSU was second and Deneko Brown of Southwest Baptist finished third. On the women’s side Latoya King also had an automatic qualifying time of 7.44 to win the event. Yanique Ellington and Cardine Copeland of Lincoln finished in second and third respectively.
In the men’s 400m dash William Shell of Southwest Baptist ran a 48.72 to win the event. Michael Ashley of LIncoln finished in second place and Eli Smith of Northwest Missouri was third on the day. Yanique Haye of Lincoln ran an automatic qualifying time of 55.64 to win the women’s event. Donna-Lee Hylton of Lincoln was second as Emporia State’s Marqueita Marisette finished in third.
In the men’s 600 yard run Ryan Peterson of Truman ran 1:12.78 to win the event. Ross Lorber of Central Missouri finished second and Tyrone Hawkins of Lincoln was third. For the women Terah Fullman of Lindnewood finished the event in 1:26.40 to finish first. Chloe Wichman of Northwest Missouri was second and Kaitlyn Wells finished third on the day.
In the men’s 800m run Kellin Loch of Central Missouri finished with a time of 1:54.03 to win the event. Jermaine Blake of Lincoln was second and Scott Nannen of Nebraska-Kearney finished third. For the women Marissa Bongers of Nebraska-Kearney had an automatic qualifying time of 2:11.92 to win the event. Dominique Staats of Emporia State was second and Sydney Potts of Missouri Southern finished third.
In the men’s 200m dash Jeff Fraley of Missouri Southern ran a 21.73 to win the event. Jordan Riffel of Pittsburg State was second and Vincent Howze of ESU was third. For the women Latoya King of Lincoln had an automatic qualifying time of 24.30 to win the event. Lincoln swept the event as Yanique Elliot finished second and Donna-Lee Hylton was third.
In the men’s 3000m run Laban Sialo of Central Missouri won the race with an 8:28.82 time. Alex Hendee of Fort Hays State was second and Adam Volkert of Pittsburg State finished third. For the women Rachel Schrader of Missouri Southern ran 10:17.65 to win the event. Kaitlyn Belisle of Missouri Southern was second and Ashley Wolkomir finished in third.
In the 4x400m relay Lincoln finished in first with a time of 3:20.10 while Central Missouri was second and Emporia State finished third. In the women’s 4x400m relay Lincoln won the event with Northwest Missouri finishing second and Nebraska-Kearney coming in third.
