New MIAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Presented by Beynon

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its fourth Track and Field Athletes of the Week from the 2025-26 men’s indoor season, presented by Beynon – the official track surface of the MIAA. Pittsburg State’s Ilias Garcia was honored as the back-to-back MIAA Track Athlete of the Week and Missouri Southern’s Jamale Williams was named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week.  
 
INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ilias Garcia, Pittsburg State
Ilias Garcia has been crowned the MIAA Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week. Garcia lowered his NCAA Division II-leading time in the men’s 60 meters with a strong showing at the University of Arkansas Woo Pig Classic last Saturday (Feb. 7). The junior from Las Vegas posted a winning time of 6.62 seconds in the meet at Randal Tyson Indoor Track. He clocked a Division II best 60-meter time of 6.63 seconds a week ago at the PSU Invitational, earning him MIAA Track Athlete of the Week honors as well. Each of his two times surpassed the previous Pitt State record in the discipline.
 
INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jamale Williams, Missouri Southern  
Jamale Williams won the shot put at Missouri Southern’s 2026 Lion Open with a career-best throw of 18.79 meters (61-7.75). The distance was an NCAA Qualifying mark and now ranks third all-time in MSSU program history and is the fourth-best shot put mark in NCAA Division II this season. Williams also had a weight throw mark of 51-6.5 (15.71 meters) at the 2026 Lion Open. 
 
NOTABLE TRACK PERFORMANCES:
Dominic Sedlacek, Northwest Missouri
Dominic Sedlacek ran a school-record time and the nation's third-best time in the 60-meter dash at the Bearcat Invite, winning the event in 6.64 seconds. The senior also posted a time of 6.64 in the prelims.
 
Mitchell Deer, Nebraska Kearney
Mitchell Deer broke his own school record in the 400 meters at the Bearcat Invite Saturday in Maryville. The senior ran a 47.59 to come in second and rank 18th nationally and fourth in the MIAA. He also ran lead for the Lopers’ third-place 4x400-meter relay team (3:15.72). That effort moves the group into fourth place in school history. 
 
NOTABLE FIELD PERFORMANCES:
Drew Tolar, Fort Hays State
Drew Tolar won the heptathlon competition at the Bearcat Invite this weekend (Feb. 6-7) after compiling a personal-best 5,117 points. That national-qualifying total currently ranks ninth in Division II and is third-best at FHSU during the program's Division II era. He also hit the national qualifying threshold in the long jump, clearing a PR of 23-6.75 on his third and final attempt.
 
Xavier Byers, Pittsburg State
Xavier Byers equaled his season best mark in the high jump with his clearance of 7 feet, 0-5 inches at the University of Arkansas Wooo Pig Classic Saturday (Feb. 7). The freshman from Kansas City, Mo., native remains ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II in the discipline.
