KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association has announced its second Track and Field Athletes of the Week from the 2025-26 men’s indoor season, presented by
Beynon – the official track surface of the MIAA. Pittsburg State swept this week’s honors with Caden Williams named the Track Athlete of the Week and Xavier Byers named the Field Athlete of the Week.
INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Caden Williams, Pittsburg State
Caden Williams shattered the Pitt State record while winning the 600-yard run at the Rumble in the Jungle D2 Invitational last Friday (Jan. 23) at the Robert W. Plaster Center. The junior from Katy, Texas, was clocked at 1 minute, 10.00 seconds in the race for the Gorillas’ new program record. Williams also helped the 4x400 meter relay set a meet record with a fast time of 3:08.95, which currently ranks as the second-fastest 4x400 time in NCAA Division II.
INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Xavier Byers, Pittsburg State
Xavier Byers posted the fourth-best high jump mark in NCAA Division II this season with his winning clearance of 7 feet, 0.5 inches (2.15 meters) at the Rumble in the Jungle D2 Invitational last Friday (Jan. 23) at the Robert W. Plaster Center. The freshman from Kansas City, Mo., also posted the third-best mark in Pitt State history with his effort in the discipline.
NOTABLE TRACK PERFORMANCES:
Riley Witt, Northwest Missouri
Bearcat senior Riley Witt put up an NCAA Division II provisional time of 1:50.29 to place second in the 800 meters at the Rumble in the Jungle Invite in Pittsburg, Kan. Witt's time is the second-best in Bearcat indoor history and ranks as the No. 12 time in the nation this season.
Mitchell Deer, Nebraska Kearney
Mitchell Deer won the 400-meter race in a school-record time of 48.21 on Saturday (Jan. 24) at the WSC NCAA Showdown. The redshirt junior also ran the second leg for the Lopers’ 4x400 meter relay team that placed second in 3:14.70. Nebraska Kearney’s 4x400 time ranks second in UNK history and 19th nationally. Deer’s 400-meter time also currently ranks 25th in Division II.
NOTABLE FIELD PERFORMANCES:
Travis Greenfield, Missouri Southern
Travis Greenfield captured the pole vault title at Pitt State’s 2026 Rumble in the Jungle DII Challenge with an NCAA-qualifying clearance of 5.08 meters (16-8), clearing the height on his first attempt. The clearance ranks Greenfield 12th in Division II in the pole vault this season.
Demarii Williams, Northwest Missouri
Demarii Williams produced an NCAA Division II provisional mark in the men's shot put at the Rumble in the Jungle Invite in Pittsburg, Kan. The sophomore posted a throw of 16.60 meters (54-5.5), which ranks as the ninth-best throw in Bearcat indoor track & field history.
