UCM's Lazerek Houston Named MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced a new Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week award winner in week ten of the 2025-26 season. Central Missouri’s Lazerek Houston was named the MIAA Athlete of the Week to claim the Mules’ first weekly honor of the season.

MIAA MEN’S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Lazerek Houston, Central Missouri
The freshman guard Lazerek Houston helped the Mules to a 1-1 record last week with a 97-83 victory over the Griffons before falling on a buzzer-beater to the Bearcats. Houston totaled 65 points for 32.5 points per game with 12 rebounds and 10 assists for good measure. In Central Missouri’s 97-83 win over Missouri Western, Lazerek posted 31 points, five boards, and four assists, while having 34 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the 80-79 last-second-loss to Northwest Missouri.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Christian Moore, Arkansas-Fort Smith
Christian Moore recorded a pair of double-doubles while averaging 17.5 points, 10.5 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game with just two turnovers as the No. 16 Lions defeated Newman and Emporia State at home. The senior guard shot 60.0 percent from the field and 6-for-8 from three. He scored 25 points and added 10 assists, five rebounds and two steals while shooting 4-for-5 from beyond the arc in the 94-87 win over Newman. He then tallied 10 points, 11 assists, seven boards and two steals and went 2-for-3 from distance in the 83-59 win over Emporia State. Moore currently ranks third in the MIAA with 5.3 assists per game and leads the league with a 3.2 assist/turnover ratio. 
 
Kyle Grill, Fort Hays State
Kyle Grill led Fort Hays State with an average of 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as the Tigers picked up two MIAA wins last week. The junior guard matched his season high in scoring in the 80-75 overtime win against Rogers State with 22 points. He then backed it with 15 points in the five-point win over Central Oklahoma. Grill is currently averaging 13.6 points per game for the season.
