MIAA Hosts 2025 Awards Celebration Ceremony June 2nd in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association host its annual Awards Celebration presented by Seigfreid Bingham on Monday, June 2, at Nelson-Atkins Museum Auditorium Kansas City, Missouri. Doors open to the event at 5:30 p.m. with the show scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. The Association will honor its most recent MIAA Hall of Fame class and present a variety of awards from the 2024-25 academic year, including the Association's Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year. 

The 2025 MIAA Awards Celebration Ceremony will be hosted in Kansas City's Nelson-Atkins Museum Auditorium for the first time in the event's history. The invitation-only event will begin with brief remarks from MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy before handing out the first awards of the evening. 

The Association's SAAC Cup and Commissioner's Cup will both be presented on stage to the 2024-25 recipients. Student-athletes and staff from Missouri Western State University will be in attendance to accept the MIAA SAAC Cup and Pittsburg State University's Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Johnson will accept the 2024-25 MIAA Commissioner's Cup, presented by Impact Signs. 

The recipients of the 2024-25 Dr. Bob Officiating Award of Excellence will each be honored on stage with the award. This year's MIAA officials receiving the honor are John Adams, Dwayne Campbell and Naomi Omenski. Highlighting the evening's festivities is the recently inducted MIAA Hall of Fame Class of 2025. The class includes ten former student-athletes and one former MIAA administrator. To view the entire MIAA Hall of Fame Class of 2025 and read more information on each inductee, click here.

The ten finalists for the 2024-25 Ken B. Jones Award will closeout the event. The Ken B. Jones Award recognizes the league’s top female and male student-athletes from the academic year. Each finalist in attendance will participate in a Q&A before the male and female winners are announced on stage. Blair Kerkhoff returns as the event's emcee for the eighth consecutive year. Kerkhoff has worked as a Kansas City Star sportswriter for over 30 years primarily covering the Chiefs and Royals. Throughout his career, he’s covered over 26 NCAA Division I Final Fours, 30 NCAA Division I Regional Finals and two Major League Baseball World Series while authoring five books. He was elected into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2023. Kerkhoff can also be found as a frequent guest on Sports Radio 810 WHB and 41 Action News in Kansas City.
