KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association will honor three of its officials with the Dr. Bob Officiating Award of Excellence at the league’s 2025 Awards Celebration in Kansas City.

John Adams, Dwayne Campbell and Naomi Omenski will each receive the Association’s 2024-25 Dr. Bob Officiating Award of Excellence. The officials will be presented with the award during the 2025 MIAA Awards Celebration at the Nelson-Atkins Museum Auditorium on Monday, June 2.

The MIAA Officiating Award of Excellence recognizes active MIAA officials, in any sport, who have made an outstanding contribution to MIAA officiating. The award was created in 2018 to honor former MIAA Commissioner Dr. Bob Boerigter. Dr. Bob recognized the importance of officiating at all levels and emphasized the degree of commitment and integrity that today’s officials must exhibit in order to be successful.

JOHN ADAMS – Football & Women's Basketball Official
John Adams is an MIAA football and women’s basketball official. First joining the MIAA as a football official in 2006, Adams has been officiating football for the past 17 years. The NCAA has selected him to officiate Division II playoff games in nine seasons, including being named the crew chief for a National Semifinal game in 2023. He’s also officiated the Mineral Water Bowl, a once-annual NCAA Division II bowl game in Missouri.

“John is very professional and well respected by all MIAA coaches and athletic directors. He’s also a great leader and role model to many young football and basketball officials in the MIAA,” said Phil Laurie, MIAA Supervisor of Football Officials. “He loves being an MIAA football and women’s basketball official.”

DWAYNE CAMPBELL – Tennis Official

Dwayne Campbell is making history by becoming the first-ever MIAA tennis official to receive the Dr. Bob Officiating Award of Excellence honor.

“Dwayne has been one of the best officials in the conference for many years now and is consistently willing to do whatever is necessary to ensure that our league matches run smoothly and have an outstanding result,” said Charlie Smith, MIAA Supervisor of Tennis Officials. “His ability to interface with the conference office, MIAA coaches and student-athletes is outstanding. He can defuse any tense situation and can communicate clearly in any circumstance.”

A native of Enid, Okla., Campbell traveled hundreds of miles to cover MIAA matches in the 2024-25 seasons. He also officiates Division I tennis and is Oklahoma’s active Vice Chair of the USTA Missouri Valley Officials Committee.

NAOMI OMENSKI – Women's Soccer Official
Naomi Omenski is only the second MIAA women’s soccer official to receive the Officiating Award of Excellence honor. She’s officiated numerous NCAA Division II regular season and tournament matches in both the MIAA and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and has worked as an NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III, NAIA and NJCAA referee throughout her extensive career.

The National Intercollegiate Soccer Officiating Association (NISOA) has named her a National Emeritus Referee and a Charlie Lee Field Performance Award winner. Along with being selected to officiate in MIAA Women’s Soccer Championships, she’s officiated NJCAA National Championships and USSF regional championships in Kansas and Missouri. Also a high school soccer official, Omenski has been named the Referee of the Year by both the Kansas and Missouri High School Athletic Associations.

Adams, Campbell and Omenski are the 13th, 14th and 15th recipients of the Dr. Bob Officiating Award of Excellence. To view the past winners and find more information on the award, visit theMIAA.com/officiatingexcellence.
