UNK's Jillian Aschoff Named MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced a new Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week award winner for week six of the 2025-26 season. Nebraska Kearney’s Jillian Aschoff was named the latest MIAA Athlete of the Week for the Lopers’ first weekly honor of the season.
 
MIAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jillian Aschoff, Nebraska Kearney
Jillian Aschoff averaged a double-double in points and assists while helping the Lopers collect three wins on the road to begin the winter break. The redshirt senior guard recorded the program's second-ever triple-double, totaling 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists in Nebraska Kearney’s 90-46 win over Chadron State last Tuesday (Dec. 16). Just 24 hours before, she had 11 assists in just 18 minutes of action in the Lopers’ major 111-43 win over NAIA’s Southwestern. Aschoff then became Nebraska Kearney’s all-time assist leader (391 career assists) and scored a game-high 31 points in an 80-67 win over South Dakota Mines on Sunday (Dec. 21). She was close to another triple-double against the Hardrockers while breaking the program’s career assists record set in 2017, thanks to a mid-fourth quarter assist for her eighth of the game. On the week, Aschoff averaged 17.5 points, 10.7 assists, 9.0 boards and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 62.5 percent overall.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Ja’Miya Brown, Pittsburg State
Ja’Miya Brown helped lead the Gorillas to wins over St. Mary (Kan.), Cameron and Western Colorado, averaging 25.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.0 assists per game. For the week, the junior North Little Rock, Ark., native shot 52.6 percent from behind the arc, 63 percent from the field and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe. She ended the week with a career-high 36 points, which included seven made three pointers, against Western Colorado (Dec. 20). Brown recorded another career-high in the win over Cameron (Dec. 19) with six steals to go with 23 points and five rebounds in 25 minutes of action. She finished 10-of-15 from the field and knocked down three from distance in the win. Brown began the week with a 16-point, seven-rebound performance against St. Mary (Kan.). She currently leads the Gorillas with 14.3 points a game while knocking down 36.7 percent of her three point attempts. She’s also averaging 5.3 rebounds a game.
 
Jerney Bennett, Central Oklahoma
Jerney Bennett led Central Oklahoma to a 3-0 week, which included a pair of wins on the road. Among the nation's leaders in blocked shots, Bennett continued her dominant play on defense while averaging 11.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on the week. She added 5.3 blocks per game, raising her average in each contest. Bennett totaled 11 points, eight rebounds and five blocks in the Bronchos’ 70-65 win against Evangel in Edmond on Tuesday (Dec. 16). She then added seven points, six boards and six blocks in the 54-42 win at St. Mary's in San Antonio on Thursday (Dec. 18). Bennett finished the week with 16 points, five blocks and four rebounds in a 75-62 win at Sul Ross State on Saturday (Dec. 20). Her 46 blocked shots on the season lead the MIAA and rank third in Division II heading into Christmas.
 
Talexa Weeter, Fort Hays State
Despite limited playing time, Talexa Weeter had another big week in two non-conference wins for the No. 7-ranked Tigers. The junior guard averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in wins over Tabor (Dec. 16) and Chadron State (Dec. 19), while playing just 22.5 minutes per game. The Goodland, Kan. native hit 69 percent (18-of-26) from the floor for the week. She scored 23 points in 22 minutes in the 75-37 win over Tabor before recording 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting in 23 minutes in the 92-49 win against Chadron State. Weeter has scored 20-plus points in 10 of 11 games this season.
 
Jaeden McMillin, Newman
Jaeden McMillin averaged a double-double last week with 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game to lead the Jets to a pair of wins. In the 90-54 win over McPherson last Tuesday (Dec. 16), the junior forward scored 14 points with seven rebounds before leading all scorers with 21 points and 14 boards in the 69-51 win over Rockhurst on Thursday (Dec. 18).
