KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its first Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week in the 2025-26 season. All 14 MIAA basketball teams were in action for the first time last week. Fort Hays State’s Talexa Weeter has been awarded the first MIAA Athlete of the Week honor of the season.
MIAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Talexa Weeter, Fort Hays State
Returning honorable mention All-MIAA selection Talexa Weeter opened her junior season with a bang, averaging a double-double while shooting 60.5 percent from the floor in a pair of Tiger victories. The Goodland, Kan. product put up an MIAA-leading 32.5 points per game, second-most in Division II so far this season, alongside 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game over the weekend in St. Joseph, Mo. She began the year with a 36-point outing in the Tigers’ 84-78 win over 11-ranked Concordia-St. Paul, tying for the sixth-most points in a game in program history and the most for a Tiger in more than 20 years. She capped off the weekend with 29 points on 13-of-20 shooting in the 84-75 win over Sioux Falls. Weeter also grabbed a career-best 14 boards against the Golden Bears before collecting seven in the win over USF.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Ashlyn Alloway, Missouri Southern
Ashlyn Alloway delivered a dominant opening weekend, averaging 24.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, and shooting 65.2 percent from the field as the Lions finished 1-1 opening weekend. The senior forward posted 23 points and 15 boards for a double-double in the 86-84 win at Augustana before adding 26 points against Mary.
Andrea Lopreato, Northwest Missouri
Andrea Lopreato set a Bearcat single-game scoring record with 40 points in Northwest's 75-64 win over Sioux Falls at the Division II Crossover Challenge held in Civic Arena in St. Joseph, Mo. Lopreato also set two more school records against USF with 19 made free throws on 21 attempts from the line. Over Northwest’s four-game stretch to begin the season, Lopreato is averaging 18.5 points per game, scoring in double-figures in three of the four Bearcat contests. The junior guard also tops the squad with nine assists and seven steals.
Myleigh Weers, Nebraska Kearney
Myleigh Weers averaged 21.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 82 percent from the line as the Lopers went 1-1 over the weekend. The dynamic freshman had 12 fourth-quarter points to help Nebraska Kearney get past Minnesota-Crookston 73-62 last Friday.
