—2018 MIAA Women's Bowling Champion McKendree University is part of the 10-team field that will compete in the 2018 NCAA National Collegiate Bowling Championship.
The championship matches will be played April 12-14 at Tropicana Lanes in St. Louis, Missouri. The University of Central Missouri and the St. Louis Sports Commission are the hosts.
The Bearcats are the defending champions of the event, having won the 2017 title last April in Baton Rouge, La. McKendree swept the University of Nebraska 4-0 in the best-of-seven Baker finals to become the first NCAA Division II program to capture the women's bowling championship. Nebraska earned the top seed in this year's field, while McKendree is right behind at No. 2.
This is the third consecutive year that McKendree has qualified for the NCAA National Collegiate Bowling Championship. The Bearcats reached the semifinal round in their first appearance back in 2016 before its national title breakthrough last spring.
Teams will be seeded and placed into the bracket, with two spots being determined after the completion of the opening-round matches. The championship will be a double-elimination, with each round consisting of a best-of-three match that includes the use of three team game formats- baker total pin fall, five-person team match and a best-of-seven baker match play. The champion will be determined using a best-of-seven baker match play.
The championship final will air at 6:30 p.m. ET, Saturday, April 14 on ESPNU and at 7 p.m. ET, Sunday, April 15 on ESPN2.
