KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced Volleyball its postseason awards and All-MIAA teams for the 2022 season.
Northwest Missouri, the 2022 regular season champions, received two of the Association’s three postseason awards. Alyssa Rezac was named the 2022 MIAA Player of the Year and Bearcat Head Coach Amy Woerth was voted the Association’s Coach of the Year. Central Oklahoma’s Syndey Huck was named the 2022 MIAA Freshman of the Year.
Alyssa Rezac, a 5-7 junior setter form Wahoo, Neb., helped lead Northwest to its first ever MIAA regular season title and the top seed in the MIAA championship tournament. She totaled 1,085 assists in the regular season and ranked third in the league with 10.96 assists per set. She also ranked third in the MIAA with 38 services aces on the year. The six-time MIAA Athlete of the Week also added 42 kills at a .229 hitting percentage and averaged 2.65 digs per set for a total of 262 on the season. She is the first setter to be crowned the MIAA Player of the Year since 2013 when Central Missouri’s Julia Bates received the honor.
Sydney Huck, a 5-10 freshman from McKinney, Texas, is UCO volleyball’s first MIAA Freshman of the Year since Taylor Devis in 2015. She led the league this season in total points (466.5), points per set (4.40) and kills per set (3.96). Her 420 total kills ranked second in the MIAA while her .261 hitting percentage, 3.08 digs per set and 327 total digs each ranked in the league’s top-20. Huck also finished the regular season with 22 service aces and ranked second on the Bronchos squad with 39 total blocks.
In her 10th season, Northwest Missouri Head Coach Amy Woerth led the Bearcats to their first ever MIAA regular season title. Northwest tied its season-high MIAA wins with 17, a record which was set in the 2021 season. The Bearcats are currently in the midst of an 11-match win streak with ties for the fourth-longest winning streak in Northwest history. Their 11-match win streak also ranked tied for ninth in the nation among active NCAA Div. II winning streaks. This is Woerth's second time being honored as the Assocation's Coach of the Year. She first earned the honor for the 2018 season.
