KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its preseason coaches poll for the 2020 women’s tennis season. Central Oklahoma was picked atop of the poll with 63 points and seven first-place votes. Last season, the Bronchos won the MIAA tournament title and qualified for the NCAA Central Regional Championship.
In second place was Northwest Missouri with 55 points and two first-place votes. A season ago, the Bearcats advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. In the third spot was a tie between Northeastern State and Washburn. NSU was the regular-season champion in 2018 as WU took the regular-season title in 2019. Nebraska Kearney rounded out the top-five with 32 points.
Emporia State was slotted sixth, just a point ahead of Newman, which claimed the seventh position. The eighth place went to Missouri Western and Fort Hays State closed out the 2020 edition of the coaches preseason poll.
Matches for the regular season begin on Friday, January 31 with conference matches set to begin on Thursday, March 19. The 2020 MIAA Women’s Championship is scheduled for April 24-26 at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. To see the complete schedule for tennis matches in the Association, click here.
