PITTSBURG, Kan. - Day one of the MIAA Baseball Championship at Al Ortolani Field in Pittsburg, Kansas is complete. The four top seeds in the tournament all advanced to the next round following victories.
Friday’s round two matches start with a pair of elimination games at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The day’s first game will be between sixth-seeded Lindenwood and seventh-seed Northwest Missouri with the final elimination game between fifth-seeded Emporia State against eighth-seeded Missouri Western.
Games for the winners bracket begin at 4 p.m. with second-seeded Missouri Southern against third-seeded Central Oklahoma. The finale for Friday features top-seeded Central Missouri and fourth-seeded Pittsburg State at 7:30 p.m.

Game 1: No. 3 Central Oklahoma 3, No. 6 Lindenwood 0
Third-seeded Central Oklahoma advanced in the MIAA Baseball Championship. UCO defeated sixth-seeded Lindenwood 3-0 in the day’s first game.
Dylan Hall pitched a gem for the Bronchos as he tossed a complete game one-hit shutout. After issuing a walk and two batters reaching on fielder’s choices in the first inning, Hall retired 26 consecutive. Seven of the eight hitters in the UCO lineup recorded at least one hit in the victory. LWU pitchers Kyle Hentis and Tyler Cassmeyer combined for nine strikeouts.
Game 2: No. 2 Missouri Southern 4, No. 7 Northwest Missouri 0
Second-seeded Missouri Southern cruised past seventh-seeded Northwest Missouri in the MIAA Baseball Championship with a 4-0 win for game two.
Zach Parish shutdown the Bearcats as the MSSU starter went eight innings and allowed three hits with eight strikeouts. MSSU pushed its lead to 2-0 on a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth-inning from Freddie Landers and added two more insurance runs in the eighth. Northwest starting pitcher Max Spitzmiller tossed seven innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
Game 3: No. 1 Central Missouri 5, No. 8 Missouri Western 4
Top-seeded Central Missouri came back to defeat eighth-seeded Missouri Western in the MIAA Baseball Championship’s third game.
The Griffons looked to pull off the tournament’s first upset with three runs in the first two innings. UCM derailed the MWSU threat with two runs in the seventh inning to complete the comeback. Alex Madera went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored to lead the Mules. Casey Danley was 3-for-5 and scored a run for the Griffons.
Game 4: No. 4 Pittsburg State 5, No. 5 Emporia State 4
Fourth-seeded Pittsburg State narrowly edged out Emporia State in the final game of the MIAA Baseball Championship.
The Gorillas looked poised to run away with the game after a three-run second inning. However, the Hornets answered with three runs in the top of the third inning but wouldn’t score again. PSU held ESU scoreless after that inning and added a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. Tyson Cushman and Chaz Burgess each went 2-for-4 at the plate and combined for three runs for Pittsburg State. Emporia State was led by Connor Hurst who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.
