Kansas City, Mo. (February 13, 2018) – Fort Hays State’s Hailey Chapman has been named the MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week and Emporia State’s Danielle Sprinkle has been named the MIAA Softball Hitter of the Week
MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Hailey Chapman, RHP, Fort Hays State University
Chapman, a sophomore from Salina, Kan., struck out 20 batters in 16.1 innings pitched, starting two games and closing one in the St. Marys Softball Classic in San Antonio, Texas. She threw two complete games but took tough luck losses in both. In a 3-2, eight-inning loss to Cameron, she struck out a career-high 12 batters and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits. In a 2-0 loss to Eastern New Mexico, she finished with seven strikeouts, while allowing two runs on four hits. Chapman relieved for the final two innings of a 5-3 win over St. Edwards, recording her second save of the season.

MIAA Softball Hitter of the Week
Danielle Sprinkle, 1B/UTL, Emporia State University
Sprinkle, a senior from Salina, Kan., hit .571 with a 1.214 slugging percentage with seven RBI in four games as Emporia State went 3-1 at the Ark.-Monticello D2 Challenge last week. She started the tournament with a two run homer in the first inning of Emporia States 9-5 loss to Ark Tech. She went three for three with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored in the Hornets 6-4 win over Harding. She was two for three with two doubles, two walks two runs and an RBI in Emporia States 17-10 non-conference win over Missouri Western. She wrapped up the weekend going two for four with two doubles and RBI and a run scored in the Hornets 5-3 victory over Ark.-Monticello.
