Need extra innings for 3-2 win over Washburn

Topeka, Kan. – Central Missouri needed extra innings, but wrapped up a 3-2, 10 inning victory over Washburn to claim the outright MIAA regular season championship in baseball.
 
Washburn struck first as Kyle Carnahan doubled to drive in Parker Gibson in the bottom of the first inning. Central Missouri responded in the top of the third as Matt Elliott hit a solo home run to right field.
 
Washburn  regained the lead as David Gauntt singled down the right field line and Carnahan came around on a throwing error. In the top of the sixth Cole Distler grounded out to first base to score Bennett Oliver and tie things up.
 
In the top of the tenth Dustin Mass walked on a full county to scored Jake Alexander and put the Mules ahead for good.
 
Derek Cornell finished three for five on the night and Bennett Oliver went two for four with two doubles and a run scored. Jake Alexander also went three for five with a run scored and Matt Elliott finished two for five.
 
Lucas Williams came on and pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing just one hit to pick up the victory. Grant Gavin pitched the bottom of the tenth allowing just one hit to pick up the save.
 
The tournament bracket and seeding will be announced by the MIAA following the games on Sunday.
