ESU DEFEATS UCM TO ADVANCE IN MIAA BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

Kansas City, Kan. – Emporia State came from behind after falling behind 3-2 when the game restarted this morning, ESU plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out a 6-3 win.
 
The Mules got things started in the first inning as Trevor Jones scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning. The Hornets would tie the game with an RBI single from Evan Koehler which scored Justin Harris. ESU would take the lead in bottom of the second inning as Levi Parker used a double into the corner to plate Jordan Hodges.
 
The game would then be halted in the bottom of the fourth inning due to rain and resume the following day. UCM opened the scoring plating two runs on an RBI single by Bennett Oliver in the top of the fifth inning. ESU would answer to tie things up in the bottom half of that frame on a Justin Harris single that scored Jordan Hodges.
 
Emporia State would take the lead in the bottom of the eight inning s Cody Bobbit drove in a run with a single through the right side. Jordan Hodges would add some insurance singling through the middle with two outs and driving in two.
 
On the mound for the Hornets Garrett Brumment came on to pitch 3.1 innings of relief and pick up his fourth win of the season with Shawn Talkington pitching the ninth to earn his 11th save.

ESU will now face MSSU in the final game of the day and UCM will face of with WU in a game scheduled for a 1:15 p.m. first pitch.
