Kansas City, Mo. -- Key games continued as MIAA basketball moved through the mid-week portion of week number 15.
Nebraska-Kearney at Northeastern State
WBB: UNK 63, NSU 52
Nebraska-Kearney converted on 13 second chance points as they earned a victory on the road at Northeastern State. UNK outrebounded NSU 51-28 as they moved to 6-12 in the league this season.
For the Lopers Amara Williams led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds while Tori Payne pulled down a team best 11 boards. Laramey Lewis and McKenzie Brown each finished with 15 points and Lewis added eight rebounds. For the RiverHawks Fontana Tate was the only player in double figures scoring with 19 points. On the glass Bria Pierce pulled down a game high 12 rebounds and Alexis Hill dished out three assists.
MBB: UNK 71, NSU 60
Nebraska-Kearney scored 20 points off of turnovers as they earned a win on the road at Northeastern State. UNK held NSU to just .343 shooting from the field as they moved to 12-6 in the league this season.
For the Lopers Connor Beranek led the way scoring 25 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Trey Lansman had 19 points and eight boards and Ethan Brozek had 12 points and eight rebounds. For the RiverHawks Dakota Caudill led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Keon Littleton had 11 points and eight rebounds while Amir Gilliam also finished with eight boards.
Fort Hays State at Central Oklahoma
WBB: #4 FHSU 56, UCO 55
#4 Fort Hays State kept Central Oklahoma off the board for the final 2:26 as they made a one-point lead stand on the road. FHSU used 16 second chance points and 22 bench points to move to 17-1 in the MIAA this year.
For the Tigers Jill Faxon led the way with 19 points and Chelsea Mason finished with 13 points. On the glass Keriann Shaw pulled down a game high 14 rebounds while Kate Lehman added 11 boards. For the Bronchos Julia Mason had a team best 17 points and Jordan Ward dished out a team high four assists. Chelsea Robinson finished with 12 points and nine rebounds on the evening.
MBB: UCO 76, FHSU 69
Central Oklahoma allowed just four points in the overtime period as they defeated Fort Hays State at home. UCO got 22 points off of turnovers and 15 second chance points as they moved to 11-7 in the league this season.
For the Bronchos Mahlon Jones led the way with a double-double scoring 26 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Seth Heckart had 14 points and dished out a game high nine assists on the night. For the Tigers Dom Samac had 16 points while Drew Kite added eight rebounds and three assists. Tamislav Gabric had 11 points and James Fleming and Jeremy Wilson each finished with 10 points.
Northwest Missouri at Southwest Baptist
WBB: SBU 67, NWMSU 47
Southwest Baptist shot .490 from the field at home as they picked up a victory over Northwest Missouri. SBU held NWMSU to just .288 shooting on the night as they moved to 4-14 in league games.
For the SBU Bearcats Leann Terrill finished with 19 points and seven rebounds on the evening. Megan Rosenbohm had 15 points and Dilonna Johnson added 10 points while Ashlee Pitts pulled down a team best eight rebounds. For the NWMSU Bearcats Ariel Easton led the way with 11 points and two assists. Tanya Meyer had 10 points and on the glass Shelby Mustain finished with eight boards.
MBB: NWMSU 72, SBU 54
Northwest Missouri shot .491 from the field as they defeated Southwest Baptist away from home. NWMSU got 27 points off of turnovers as they moved to 14-4 in the league this season.
For the NWMSU Bearcats Conner Crooker led the way with 21 points while Matt Wallace had eight assists and Justin Pitts dished out five. Zach Schneider had 12 points and Gran Cozad finished with 10 points while on the glass Anthony Woods pulled down eight boards. For the SBU Bearcats Daymond Dowlah had 11 points and Derrick Stewart added 10 points. Menas Stephens pulled down a team best eight rebounds and Finn Delany dished out three assists.
