Kansas City, Mo. -- Emporia State and Nebraska-Kearney split a double header as the mid-week portion of week 14 came to a close in MIAA basketball.
Emporia State at Nebraska-Kearney
WBB: #13 ESU 73, UNK 57
#13 Emporia State got 26 points off of turnovers as they earned a victory on the road at Nebraska-Kearney. ESU took the lead in the 14th minute of the first half and did not look back as they moved to 13-4 in league play.
For the Lady Hornets Merissa Quick led the way scoring 20 points and pulling down five rebounds. Kelly Moten had 16 points and three assists while Addie Lackey had 15 points and four assists. For the Lopers Alexa Hogberg led the way scoring 15 points while Laramey Lewis dished a team best four assists. McKenzie Brown had 12 points and Amarah Williams finished with 10 points while on the glass Kelsey Fitzgerald pulled down seven boards.
MBB: UNK 69, ESU 63
Nebraska-Kearney got 19 points off of turnovers as they defeated Emporia State on their home floor. UNK made 24 of 30 free throws and while ESU made just six as they UNK moved to 10-6 in the MIAA this year.
The Lopers were led by Conner Beranek who racked up a game high 27 points on the night. Ethan Brozek was also in double figures scoring 26 points and pulling down a team high eight rebounds. For the Hornet Jay Temaat led the way scoring 12 points and Tyler Jordan had a team best five assists. Josh Pederson and Jevon Taylor each had 11 points and joined by Micah Swank with a team best four rebounds.
