TOP SEEDS ADVANCE IN FIRST ROUND OF MIAA VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

Kansas City, Mo. – The top seeds advanced in all four matches as the opening round of the MIAA Volleyball Tournament came to a close.
 
#1 Central Oklahoma 3, #8 Emporia State 0
Top seeded Central Oklahoma held eight seed Emporia State to just .019 hitting as they earned the 25-16, 25-13 and 25-20 victory.
 
For the Bronchos Allison Barr led the way hitting .368 with nine kills while Taylor Bevis added eight kills and Jordan Spence added seven kills. Katy Davis finished with 29 assists while Whitney Gifford had 17 digs and Bonnie Vernon finished with 10 digs.
 
For the Hornets Shayla Cotman had nine kills and Danika Burton added seven kills.
 
UCO will face off with fourth seeded Washburn at 4 p.m. on Nov. 20 from Edmond, Okla.
 
#2 Central Missouri 3, #7 Northwest Missouri 0
Second seeded Central Missouri got eight blocks and held seventh seed Northwest Missouri to .080 hitting to earn a 25-17, 25-16 and 25-17 victory.
 
For the Jennies Carly Sojka finished with 14 kills adding six assists while Kasey Hohlen finished with 12 kills. Kourtney Thompson has 24 assists as Annie Reilly added 23 digs and Kylie Hohlen finished with 11 digs.
 
For the Bearcats Jackie Becker had nine kills and Maddy Bruder added seven kills on the night.
 
UCM will face off with third seeded Nebraska-Kearney at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 from Edmond, Okla.
 
#3 Nebraska-Kearney 3, #6 Fort Hays State 1
Nebraska-Kearney hit .272 and got 11 total blocks as team as they finished out a 25-14, 24-26, 25-14 and 25-20 victory over sixth seeded Fort Hays State.
 
For the Lopers Kendall Schroer led the way with 16 kills hitting .538 as Kaitlyn Thomas finished with 13 kills and Tara Ziegelbein had 11 kills. Erin Seele had 48 assists and finished with a double-double adding 12 digs. Ellie McDonnell finished with 18 digs and Skyler Erickson added 15 digs.
 
For the Tigers Mallory Flagor had 14 kills and Crystal Whitten finished with 13 kills on the evening.
 
UNK will face off with second seeded Central Missouri at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20 from Edmond, Okla.
 
#4 Washburn 3, #5 Missouri Western 2
Fourth seeded Washburn hit .303 as the came from behind for a  28-30, 25-18, 26-28, 25-15 and 15-10 win.
 
For the Ichabods Sarah Vicory hit .368 as she led the way with 18 kills and Kelsey Barrick hit .481 with 15 kills. Leanna Willer had a double-double with 17 kills and 18 digs and Korie Thompson had a double-double with 14 kills and 19 digs. Liz Powell had a team high 42 assists while Alyssa Carney added 38 digs.

For the Griffons Rachel Friedrichs had 16 kills, Shellby Taylor added 15 kills and Blair Russell added 13 kills. Jordan Chohon had a double-double dishing 52 assists and added 24 digs.
 
Washburn will face off with top seeded Central Oklahoma at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 from Edmond, Okla.
