Kansas City, Mo. -- Most teams turned around on just one day of rest to play a full Monday of games in MIAA basketball.
Lindenwood at Emporia State
WBB: #1 ESU 97, LWU 52
#1 Emporia State scored 32 points off of turnover and 23 points on the second chance as they defeated Lindenwood at home. ESU used 51 first half points as they earned their fifth straight victory in league play.
For the Lady Hornets Amber Vandiver had a double-double scoring 24 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Kelly Moten added 22 points and Merissa Quick had 19 points while Addie Lackey added seven assists. The Lions were led by Jenny Rocha who dropped in 11 points. Vanessa Zailo had 10 points and led the way on the glass with nine rebounds.
MBB: LWU 67, ESU 49
Lindenwood held Emporia State to just 13 first half points as they picked up a victory on the road. LWU shot .511 in the game and .571 from the three-point line as they moved to 4-2 in league play.
For the Lions Cory Arentsen finished with a double-double scoring 20 points and pulling down a game high 11 rebounds. Darris Smith joined him in double figures scoring 22 points on the night. For the Hornets Terrence Moore had 25 points, six rebounds and four steals. Perryonte Smith had 10 points and Micah Swank dished out a game high four assists.
Southwest Baptist at Fort Hays State
WBB: FHSU 72, SBU 56
Fort Hays State held Southwest Baptist to just .250 shooting from the field in the second half as they earned a victory at home. FHSU used 20 second chance points to move to 5-0 in the league this season.
Kate Lehman led the Tigers with a double-double scoring 20 points, pulling down 11 rebounds and blocking eight shots. Keriann Shaw also had a double-double scoring 10 points and adding 11 boards. For the Bearcats both Leann Terrill and Lisette Plasencia scored 10 points. On the glass Ashlee Pitts led the way pulling down five rebounds.
MBB: SBU 72, FHSU 70
Southwest Baptist erased a seven-point halftime deficit as they picked up a victory on the road at Fort Hays State. SBU shot .500 from the field in the second half also going 5 of 10 from three as they moved to 2-3 in league play.
The Bearcats were led by David Gabrovsek who scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Finn Delaney added 13 points as Robert Shaw dished out a team best four assists. For the Tigers Craig Nicholson had a double-double as he scored 17 points and dished out 11 assists. Achoki Moikobu had 16 points and Royce Williams added 11 points on the night.
Northwest Missouri at Northeastern State
WBB: NSU 59, NWMSU 45
Northeastern State held Northwest Missouri to just 14 first half points as they earned a win at home. NSU racked up 24 points off of turnover as they moved to 3-2 in the league this season.
Kate Bellamy led the way for the RiverHawks as she scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds. Fontana Tate had eight points and pulled down a team best seven boards. For the Bearcats Shelby Mustain had a double-double scoring 11 points and pulling down a game high 12 rebounds. Ariel Easton had nine points and dished out a team high three assists.
MBB: NWMSU 83, NSU 59
Northwest Missouri jumped out with 53 first quarter points as they won on the road at Northeastern State. NWMSU got 15 second chance points and hit ten three pointers in the first half as they moved to 3-1 in the MIAA this year.
The Bearcats were led by Justin Pitts with 20 points, Conner Crooker with 16 points and Zach Schneider with 15 points. Grand Cozad added 14 points and on the glass Brett Dougherty pulled down 12 rebounds. For the RiverHawks Keon Littleton led the way scoring 13 points on the evening. C.J. Winzer had 12 points and pulled down a team best six rebounds.
Missouri Western at Nebraska-Kearney
WBB: UNK 86, MWSU 81
Nebraska-Kearney held off a second half comeback by Missouri Western to pick up a victory at home. UNK shot .500 from the field in the first half and .667 from the three-point line as they moved to 2-4 in the league.
For the Lopers Laramey Lewis had 25 points and eight rebounds and Amarah Williams had 18 points and nine boards. McKenzie Brown had 15 points and Alexa Hogberg had 10 points and eight assists. For the Griffons LaQuinta Jefferson led the way with a game high 40 points. Mhykeah Baez led the way on the glass pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.
MBB: MWSU 81, UNK 77
Missouri Western erased a nine-point halftime deficit to earn an overtime victory on the road at Nebraska-Kearney. MWSU got 16 points off of turnovers as they only turned the ball over eight times themselves and moved to 2-3 in league play.
For the Griffons Cortrez Colbert led the way scoring 23 points and Cole Clearman led the way on the glass with six rebounds. Kevin Thomas had 16 points and four assists while Hans Thun added 12 points. For the Lopers Connor Beranek had a double-double scoring 19 points and pulling down 11 boards. Ethan Brozek also had a double-double as he scored 16 points and pulled down 18 rebounds.
Central Missouri at Washburn
WBB: UCM 64, #8 WU 61
Central Missouri held off a second half comeback as they upset #8 Washburn on the road in Topeka. UCM shot .571 in the first half as they move to 4-1 in league games this season.
For the Jennies Jasmine Thompson had 14 points and Justina Prairie Chief added 13 points. Tayler Welks finished with 11 points and Revonnia Howard and Shelby Winkelmann also added 10 points. For the Ichabods Honor Duvall led the way with 19 points while pulling down eight rebounds. Casyn Buchman finished with 11 points and dished out a team best five assists.
MBB: #8 UCM 63, WU 60
Central Missouri allowed just 16 first half points as they picked up a win on the road at Washburn. After a late 8-0 run by WU, UCM used a 5-0 run in the final minutes to put the game away and go to 3-2 in the league this season.
For the Mules Brennen Hughes led the way scoring 12 points and pulling down a team high eight rebounds. Kyle Wolf also had 12 points while Dillon Deck finished the game with 11 points. For the Ichabods Kyle Wiggins had a game high 22 points and Andy Wilson led the way on the glass with seven boards. Kevin House added 13 points and also dished out four assists along with Alex North.
Lincoln at Pittsburg State
WBB: #5 PSU 86, LU 56
#5 Pittsburg State shot .514 from the field as they earned a victory at home over Lincoln. PSU got 18 points off of turnover and had 32 points off the bench as they moved to 3-0 in the league.
For the Gorillas Lizzy Jeronimus had 28 points and nine rebounds while Antqunita Reed had 13 points. Also in double figures were Hailey Rodrique and Kylie Gafford who had 10 points each. For the Blue Tigers Hunter Yoakum led the way scoring 18 points and pulling down five rebounds. Kayton Cole had 12 points, Dorian Briggs added 12 points and Kate Frazier finished with 10 points.
MBB: PSU 74, LU 50
Pittsburg State held Lincoln to just .292 shooting from the field as they picked up a win on their home floor. PSU got 21 points off of turnover and 34 bench points to move to 3-1 in the MIAA.
For the Gorillas Josiah Gustafson had 20 points while Connor Kjer added 14 points on the night. Dakota Jones had 12 points and Lamine Dieng finished by pulling down 10 rebounds. For the Blue Tigers Joshua Buie had 18 points and three assists and Victor Scott added 11 points. On the glass Blake Ralling led the way pulling down nine rebounds.
