Kansas City, Mo. -- Their were two upsets of top 25 teams as MIAA basketball got back underway in the new year.
 
Lincoln at Emporia State
WBB: #1 ESU 99, LU 57
#1 Emporia State racked up 56 first half points as they picked up a victory at home over Lincoln. ESU shot .569 from the field and .550 from behind the three-point line as they moved to 4-0 in league play.
 
For the Lady Hornets Kelsey Barnwell led the way with 25 points while Addie Lackey had 12 points and seven assists. Megan Holloway and Kelly Moten finished with 11 points each while Merissa Quick pulled down nine rebounds. For the Blue Tigers Dorian Briggs led the way scoring 14 points on the afternoon. Kayton Cole added three assists and Seleena Neal had a team best four rebounds.
 
MBB: ESU 75, LU 54
Emporia State held Lincoln to just 19 first half points as they earned a win at home. ESU shot .500 from the field and .535 in the second half as they moved to 1-3 in the league this season.
 
The Hornets were led by Terrence Moore who scored 20 points and dished out a team best seven assists. Jevon Taylor added 13 points, Micah Swank had 11 points and Terrence Sardin added 10 points. For the Blue Tigers Joshua Buie led the way with 16 points and Victor Scott finished with 14 points. On the glass Aaron Spudich pulled down seven rebounds.
 
Lindenwood at Pittsburg State
WBB: #5 PSU 78, LWU 66
#5 Pittsburg State used 50 second half points to erase a halftime deficit and earn a win over Lindenwood at home. PSU shot .500 from both the field and three-point line in the second half as they move to 2-0 in league play.
 
For the Gorillas Lizzy Jeronimus had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Mikaela Burgess also added 21 points. Cathy Brugman had 14 points and Kylie Gafford added 13 points on the afternoon. For the Lions Kassidy Gengenbacher led the way with 19 points and Jenny Rocha added 12 points. Vanessa Zailo had a double-double as she scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
 
MBB: LWU 69, PSU 65
Lindenwood made a three-point halftime lead stand up as they earned a victory over Pittsburg State on the road. LWU shot .533 from the field and .565 from the three-point line as they moved to 3-2 in the MIAA.
 
For the Lions Cory Arentsen led the way with 16 points while Darris Smith and LJ McIntosh each added 13 points. On the glass Sam Mader led the way with a team high six rebounds. For the Gorillas Josiah Gustafson had a game high 24 points while Devon Branch had 11 points. Lamine Dieng had 10 points and added a team best eight rebounds.
 
Central Oklahoma at Northwest Missouri
WBB: UCO 68, NWMSU 38
Central Oklahoma held Northwest Missouri to just 15 first half points as they earned a victory at home. UCO held NWMSU to just .268 shooting from the field as they moved to 4-1 in league play this season.
 
For the Bronchos McKenzie Solberg and Julia Mason each led the way with 14 points each. Olivia Mason had 12 points and finished with a team best six rebounds on the afternoon. For the Bearcats Taylor Schull led the way with a team best five points. On the glass Morgan Walker finished with a game high nine rebounds.
 
MBB: NWMSU 91, UCO 70
Northwest Missouri shot .708 from the three-point line as they earned a victory on the road at Central Missouri. NWMSU was 17 of 24 from behind the arch as they moved to 3-1 in the league this season.
 
For the Bearcats Zach Schneider hit nine three-pointers as he finished with a game high 29 points.  Justin Pitts added 17 points, Conner Crooker finished with 13 points and Brett Dougherty had 11 points. For the Bronchos Garen Wright had 13 points and Phillip Brown added 12 points. Mahlon Jones and Seth Hecker each finished with 11 points on the afternoon.
 
Missouri Southern at Fort Hays State
WBB: FHSU 89, #22 MSSU 70
Fort Hays State scored 50 first half points as they earned an upset win over #22 Missouri Southern at home. FHSU shot .508 fro the field as they moved to 4-0 in the MIAA this year.
 
For the Tigers Kate Lehman led the way scoring 31 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Chelsea Mason had 15 points and Nikola Kacperska dished out a team best seven assists. For the Lions Nicole Hartzog led the way scoring 23 points on the afternoon. Sharese Jones finished with a double-double as she scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
 
MBB: FHSU 80, MSSU 70
Fort Hays State scored 15 points off turnover and got 15 second chance points as they defeated Missouri Southern at home. FHSU turned the ball over just eight times as they moved to 2-2 in league play.
 
For the Tigers Craig Nicholson had 21 points, dished seven assists and pulled down nine rebounds. Ryoce Williams added 18 points while Dom Samac finished with 12 points. For the Lions Taevaunn Prince had a double-double scoring 38 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Lane Barlow finished with 11 points and dished out three assists.
 
Missouri Western at Washburn
WBB: #8 WU 78, MWSU 71
Washburn scored 22 points off of turnover as they earned a victory at home over Missouri Western. WU shot .517 in the from the field in the first half as they moved to 3-2 in league play.
 
For the Ichabods Taylor Ignoto led the way with 24 points and Casyn Buchman had 18 points. Honor Duvall had 16 points and Jayna Smith had a team high 10 rebounds on the evening. For the Griffons LaQuinta Jefferson had a game high 25 points. Sarafina Handy finished with 16 points and Ariana Novak and Chelsea Dewey each finished with eight points.
 
MBB: WU 85, MWSU 60
Washburn held Missouri Western to just 18 first half points as they earned a victory at home. WU scored 21 points off of turnover and got 11 second chance points as they moved to 3-2 in the league.
 
For the Ichabods Alex North led the way with 21 points while David Salach pulled down five rebounds. Kyle Wiggins had 17 points and dished out a team best six assists. For the Griffons Cole Clearman led the way with 19 points and Kevin Thomas had a team best eight rebounds. Cortrez Colbert added 11 points and Aaron Emmanuel dished out a team high five assists.
 
Central Missouri at Nebraska-Kearney
WBB: UCM 68, UNK 49
Central Missouri held Nebraska-Kearney to just 19 first half point as they picked up a victory on the road. UCM scored 12 second chance points as they moved to 3-1 in the MIAA this season.
 
For the Jennies Shelby Winkelmann led the way scoring a game high 23 points and Tayler Welks finished with 17 points. Justina Prairie Chief had 12 points and on the glass Revonnia Howard pulled down 10 rebounds. For the Lopers Laramey Lewis led the way with 23 points and Amarah Williams finished with 18 points. On the glass Kelsey Fitzgerald led the way with nine boards.
 
MBB: UNK 65, #8 UCM 64
Nebraska-Kearney scored the final four points of the game as they upset #8 Central Missouri at home. UNK scored 42 second half points to erase a nine-point halftime deficit and move to 4-1 in the league this season.
 
For the Lopers Connor Beranek had a double-double scoring 17 points and pulling down a game high 16 rebounds. Ethan Brozek scored a game high 18 points and Ty Danielson finished with 12 points. For the Mules Dillon Deck led the way with 16 points and Brennen Hughes had 14 points. Kyle Wolf added a double-double scoring 12 points and bringing down 12 rebounds.
