Kansas City, Mo. -- It was a wild finish to the mid-week in week 11 as three games went to overtime in MIAA basketball.
Missouri Western at Lincoln
WBB: LU 76, MWSU 72
Lincoln came back from down nine points at the half to earn a victory over Missouri Western at home. LU trailed by as much as 14 points in the second half before chipping away and taking the league with 1:47 to go as they moved to 3-8 in the league this season.
The Blue Tigers are led Kelsey Williams who had a double-double scoring 29 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Kayton Cole added 11 points and Kate Frazier finished with 10 points. The Griffons were led by LaQuinta Jefferson who scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Sarafina Handy had 17 points, Ariana Novak had 11 points and Miliakere Koyamainavure finished with 10 points.
MBB: MWSU 79, LU 72
Missouri Western trailed most of the night until the final 27 seconds as they forced overtime and won on the road at Lincoln. MWSU got 23 points off of turnovers and 15 second chance points as they moved to 4-6 in the league this season.
The Griffons were led by Dareon Jones who had 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds and Cortrez Colbert with 20 points and eight boards. Kevin Thomas finished with 12 points and eight rebounds while Aaron Emmanuel had 10 points. For the Blue Tigers Joshua Buie led all scorers with 25 points on the evening and Malcolm McDonald had 11 points and Victor Scott finished with 10 points. Blake Ralling had a double-double scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Nebraska-Kearney at Washburn
WBB: WU 68, UNK 61 OT
Washburn came from behind at the half and forced overtime to defeat Nebraska-Kearney on their home floor. WU was 9 of 10 from the free throw line in the overtime as they moved to 6-5 in league play.
For the Ichabods Casyn Buchman led the way with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Honor Duvall had 12 points and Taylor Ignoto had 10 points and Allyssa Nikkel dished out four assists. The Lopers were led by Amarah Williams who had a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds as Laramey Lewis had 14 points. Alexa Hogberg also had a double-double scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
MBB: UNK 87, WU 86 OT
Nebraska-Kearney connected on three of four free throws in the final nine seconds to hold on for an overtime win on the road at Washburn. UNK had 13 second chance points as they held on to move to 8-3 in the league this season.
For the Lopers Ethan Brozek led the way with 23 points and eight rebounds and Connor Beranek had 19 points and six assists. Ty Danielson finished with 15 points and Isaiah McKay had 12 points. For the Ichabods Kyle Wiggins led the way with 28 points and Alex North had 17 points and five rebounds. Christian Ulsaker dished out six assists and picked of a game high four steals.
Missouri Southern at Southwest Baptist
WBB: MSSU 79, SBU 61
Missouri Southern shot .520 from the field as they earned a victory over Southwest Baptist on the road. SBU racked up 20 points off of turnovers as they moved to 7-4 in the MIAA this season.
The Lions were led by Nicole Hartzog who scored 19 points and added six rebounds. Sharese Jones added 17 points and nine boards while Camila Lacerda finished with 12 points. For the Bearcats Dilonna Johnson had 21 points, pulled down five rebounds and dished out three assists. Mackenzie Skupa had 13 points and seven boards and Leann Terrill finished with 11 points.
MBB: MSSU 68, SBU 65
Missouri Southern made seven of eight free throws in the final minute to defeat Southwest Baptist on the road. MSSU erased a ten-point halftime deficit to earn the win as they moved to 8-3 in the league this season.
For the Lions Cameron Cornelius led the way with 22 points and Austin Wright finished with 12 points. Taevaunn Prince had ten points and led the team with seven board. For the Bearcats Menas Stephens had a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds while dishing out six assists. Finn Delany had 15 points and Patrick Burke added 11 points on the evening.
at #9 Pittsburg State 85, Central Oklahoma 55
In a game just between the women’s teams #9 Pittsburg State scored 49 second half points to defeat Central Oklahoma at home. PSU put back 14 second chance points as they moved to 9-2 in the league this season.
For the Gorillas Morgan Westoff led the way with 23 points and Lizzy Jeronimus added 21 points and eight boards while Kylie Gafford finished with 14 points and eight boards. Cathy Brugman added 10 points and Hadyn Herlocker dished out a game best eight assists. For the Bronchos Chelsea Robinson led the way with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists. Julia Mason and Marley Anderson each finished with 11 points on the night.
