Kansas City, Mo. -- Things got off to a wild start as a top ten battle highlighted the beginning of week 11 in MIAA basketball.
Fort Hays State at Emporia State
WBB: #6 FHSU 65, #2 ESU 55
#6 Fort Hays State held #2 Emporia State to just 21 first half points as they went on the road for the upset. FHSU held ESU to just .281 shooting from the field in the first half as they remained unbeaten at 11-0 in league play.
For the Tigers Kate Lehman led the way with a double-double scoring 18 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Also in double figures were Chelsea Mason with 14 points and Jill Faxon with 12 points. For the Lady Hornets Merissa Quick led the way with a double-double scoring 14 points and pulling down 14 boards. Kathryn Flott had 11 points and Addie Lackey and Kelly Moten each finished the game with 10 points.
MBB: FHSU 66, ESU 44
Fort Hays State shot .531 from the field as they picked up a win on the road over Emporia State. FHSU shot .538 from the three-point line as they moved to 6-5 in the MIAA this season.
For the Tigers James Fleming scored a team best 15 points while dishing a five assists. Jake Stoppel added 10 points and on the glass Achoki Moikobu led the way with eight boards. For the Hornets Terrence Moore led the way with 12 points while picking off six steals. Micah Swank had 11 points, added six rebounds and dished out a team best five assists.
Lindenwood at Northwest Missouri
WBB: NWMSU 81, LWU 72
Northwest Missouri erased a halftime deficit as they defeated Lindenwood on their home floor. NWMSU shot .571 from the field in the second half as they moved to 3-8 in MIAA play this season.
The Bearcats were led by Ariel Easton who scored 34 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Tember Schechinger had 15 points and Tanya and Shelby Mustain each added eight points. For the Lions Kassidy Gengenbacher led all scorers with 24 points adding seven rebounds. Vanessa Zailo had a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds and Kylie Ferguson had 12 points.
MBB: NWMSU 74, LWU 61
Northwest Missouri shot .551 from the field as they brought Lindenwood’s nine game winning streak to an end. NWMSU had 12 points off of turnovers and 14 second chance points as they moved to 6-4 in the league this season.
For the Bearcats Grant Cozad led the way scoring 22 points and pulling down a team best nine rebounds. Zach Schneider finished with 21 points and Lyle Harris added 15 points while Matt Wallace dished out four assists. For the Lions Cory Arentsen had a game high 23 points while pulling down five rebounds. Sam Mader finished with 16 points and Darris Smith had 10 points on the night.
Pittsburg State at Northeastern State
WBB: #9 PSU 57, NSU 48
#9 Pittsburg State held Northeastern State to just 19 first half point as they earned a victory on the road in Tahlequah. PSU got 25 points off of their bench as they moved 8-2 in league play this season.
For the Gorillas Lizzy Jeronimus led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds as Antqunita Reed also pulled down nine boards. Morgan Westhoff was also in double figures as she scored 14 points and Hadyn Herlocker dished out three assists. For the RiverHawks Bria Pierce had ten points and pulled down a team best seven rebounds. Chelsey Beathard also added ten points and Kate Bellamy dished out a team best three assists.
MBB: PSU 76, NSU 66
Pittsburg State shot .600 from behind the three-point line as they picked up a win on the road at Northeastern State. PSU outrebounded NSU 34-30 on the night as they moved to 8-3 in the league this season.
The Gorillas were led by Javis Flynn who scored 17 points, pulled down six rebounds and dished a game high seven assists. Also in double figures were Josiah Gustafson with 16 points, Connor Kjer with 14 points and Devon Branc with 13 points. For the RiverHawks Demone Harrison led the way with 22 points and Amir Gilliam had a game high five points. Keon Littleton added 18 points and seven rebounds and Trey Mohair had 11 points and four assists.
